Overall Satisfaction with Newswire

Whenever we've put out a press release we've done it with Newswire. At my current organization, we seldom put out press releases, but it feels important (although maybe just the old school way we're all used to) to put out a release on a public forum like Newswire that will promote it for us. We will put out a release for a product launch, a C-suite leadership change, a new big partnership or customer (when they let us), and the like.
  • They tell you where your release is getting promoted
  • Impressions are tracked
  • Formatting and general UX is simple and easy
  • I haven't seen any real industry-specific journals pick up our stories from this outlet
  • There are tight word count restraints (this may just be our package but still annoying)
  • There aren't many options for what industries your release is promoted to (like I've experienced at competitors)
  • Increased brand awareness
It's pretty easy to use, the only thing that trips us up is the word count constraints. We, of course, keep the count in mind when writing but somehow it usually ends up being a few over and we have to edit it down on the spot.

Mailchimp, Google Analytics, NVIDIA Riva (formerly NVIDIA Jarvis)
For every important release my company has had, we always pitch it to news outlets in our industry specifically. This has worked much better for us than using Newswire (or any other PR wire). Although Newswire and the like get a lot of impressions, I just don't think their algorithms are specified to who we're really wanting to reach. All impressions are good, and I don't think it's a bad idea to use Newswire to help spread the word, but we haven't been able to prove the ROI. If the news you'd like to promote is very generalized, like specific to finance or healthcare (etc.), then maybe Newswire would be perfect for you. It's also very possible my experience with Newswire is skewed because my company is very small and young and niche. We may just be too specialized to get the attention we're seeking from Newswire.
