We use Crystal Reports as part of our report writing. It connects well with our EMR database, and acts as a great tool to pull, filter, and analyze data. Whether you're an experienced SQL-guru or have no experience in it, Crystal Reports has a solution for you to help you pull data and analyze it.

- Provides useful parameters to filter through your queries
- Provides style options to template with
- Could provide more design options.
- It's not quite pixel perfect, and lining up fields can sometimes be tedious.

Excel has some competitive features with Crystal Reports, especially if you have it connected directly with the database, however, it's overall very different. With Crystal, it allows you to enter values before running a report to really compare between different parameters. It also requires a lot less customization to get results from.
