Overall Satisfaction with Sigma Computing
Data democratization, enabling non-technical users to work with our company's business data; data engineering. We use Sigma for all of our data visualization needs, from ad hoc analyses to dashboards used by the whole company.
- Provides a familiar data analysis format with its spreadsheet interface.
- Fast; by querying the warehouse directly, it's much more performant than other cloud-based BI tools.
- Allows non-technical users to interact with and analyze warehouse data without needing to know SQL.
- Easy-to-use templates are great for monitoring aspects of our data stack.
- UI is a little clunky; you'd expect a product that was developed in the last 5-10 years to have a snappier interface and a more polished product.
- There really needs to be a way to weave custom SQL queries into a workbook to perform advanced aggregations and manipulations; currently, you can only use SQL to load data into a parent table.
- Improved understanding of our customer relationships by being able to see a unified view of the relationship across marketing, sales, CS, and product usage.

Sigma has enabled business users to jump in and start analyzing data themselves when they need to. They don't need to wait for a data analyst to free up, which can often be weeks, depending on the data team's workload. Importantly, they are able to analyze data that they trust because they are only accessing datasets that have been cleaned, normalized, and have business logic and metrics defined throughout.
Still exploring this use case. There is definitely a learning curve for Sigma, and I haven't found it to be as easy as using a tool like Hex where everything is SQL and Python. I would imagine that as we move up the learning curve, ad hoc analyses will become faster than writing fresh code each time.
Sigma is definitely more user-friendly and has powerful built-in functions and capabilities for analyzing and visualizing data in a low-code fashion. It allows our non-technical users to jump in and use data to answer the questions they are asking without having to wait for another analyst to free up. We selected Sigma because of its powerful feature base, great performance, and ease of use.
