Don't be a Slacker with Office Communication
Overall Satisfaction with Slack
The Communications (formerly Marketing) Department uses Slack to quickly exchange ideas and files on current projects. We previously used a combination of email, instant messaging, text messaging, hollering across the office, phone calls, and inter-office mail to communicate - Slack has replaced all of these! While most of our messages are 1-to-1, we do have weekly group discussions and our director will send broadcast messages that affect everyone.
Pros
- High Availability - As our communication hub, it is important that the service is always on; Slack is always on!
- Nice Apps - The Slack website is nice, but the desktop and mobile apps are top-notch and get frequent updates with new features.
- Approachable Design - Clean lines, great use of color, and only showing options that you need right then make Slack easy for anyone to use.
Cons
- The emoji in the selection box are too small.
- The free version is great for most groups, including ours. So, just considering the time investment to get it set up (very short), I'd say that Slack has had a very positive impact.
I have only learned about similar/competing services after we started using Slack, but have not even visited the websites of those others.
