Overall Satisfaction with Smartsheet
Smartsheet is used for a variety of projects at Gateway Technical College throughout the whole organization. When I began my position, we mainly used it to track purchase orders in the IT department. Once I became familiar with the program, we began implementing Smartsheet in other departments. I've helped set up Smartsheets that are used for facilities project management, lessee and lessor agreements, inventory, workshop registration, and capital requisitions to name a few. Smartsheet definitely helps keep things organized and makes it very easy for many people to have live access to documents.
- The ability to attach documents to a whole sheet or a specific line is very convenient and a time saver!
- The ability to share a document with many people, and the capability to choose whether specific people can "edit" or only "view".
- E-mail notifications for things like due dates, update requests, alerts, etc.
- Conditional formatting that allows documents to look organized and professional.
- The ability to add column headers would be a great feature.
- It would also be helpful if formatting could be done to specific words or lines, versus formatting being applied to an entire cell.
- Inventory!! Smartsheet has helped tremendously for us to have a constantly up to date document with all inventory information that can be accessed by anyone who needs to see it.
- Smartsheet has also allowed us to eliminate A LOT of paper copies because of the ability to attach documents to a sheet or a specific line. We save paper and space! And everyone can access the documents from the same place.
- Communication between employees can increased significantly. My colleagues in the facilities department had been using Excel to track their projects, but they had to provide updated paper copies to everyone at the monthly meetings. Now that they use Smartsheet, they can all pull up the live document eliminating the need for paper copies and employees not having current information.
- Excel,Google Sheets
Excel lacks the share-ability of Smartsheet. In order for multiple employees to use Excel for a project they have to constantly send updated documents back and forth to each other, and no more than one person can edit or view a document at once. Google Sheets isn't as easy to use and lacks many of the project management features that are available in Smartsheet.
