Overall Satisfaction with TriNet
We use TriNet for the whole organization through its HR Passport portal. Payroll, benefits, 401(k) through Transamerica Retirement, PTO requests and time tracking for hourly employees (although we will be transitioning to a new timekeeping vendor in the next month or so), as well as the additional services that come with being a TriNet customer (e.g., EAP).
We were a 7-person startup when we launched the company and I was the only non R&D professional without HR experience. TriNet was a one-stop shop that enabled us to get HR up and running for our company and offer a professional and competitive HR package to our employees. Today we are ~40 employees and do not yet have a dedicated HR professional on staff, so its ability to be a single vendor/portal and provide us with a competitive benefits package are still very important.

- Payroll processing. Consistent with relatively few issues/errors. (The admin experience is improving, but could still use some improvement.)
- Competitive benefits packages for a small company to offer its employees. Helps me avoid the administrative headache of shopping around and negotiating with insurers to put together a package. Low level of effort for the company to administer the program.
- Employee onboarding and termination is straightforward.
- NetTime is terrible. We are switching to a different vendor.
- Reporting is underwhelming. Canned reports are okay, but would really benefit from the user being able to customize them. Report builder is unusable (I listened to training webinar twice and still couldn't figure out how to use it). Process for getting a custom report created is inefficient.
- The current web portal is outdated from a UI perspective and slow for me to use (as admin). Hopefully the new version will provide a better experience.
- Using TriNet enabled us to avoid spend on HR professionals and use critical cash for other purposes
- Enables compliance so that we can hire the best people, even of they will be in different geographies
- Competitive benefits and efficient administration helps with recruiting and reduces likelihood of employee complaints
We were already using TriNet and there would have been a switching cost (i.e., my time) that we didn't have the bandwidth for at the time. Zenefits still required internal HR (i.e., me) to do too much. The most important benefit from using TriNet for us is that TriNet does all of the research and set up. All the company has to do is administration.
