Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 is a great partner in backup and recovery

We are required to retain former users' data for two years. Manually pulling this data from Exchange Online and the OneDrive admin portal is time consuming and error-prone (files often corrupted or incomplete). Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 enabled us to automate the process of having user data backed up on premise and trivial to export these files to a local archive. This was our main purchase decision point. In addition, we now have a backup of users O365 contents in case of misuse or compromised account (MFA isn't bulletproof). When we started backing this up, we found we have 120% more data in O365 than we thought.

The Microsoft-provided processes for archiving this data proved consistently error prone and therefore unreliable. We tested Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 as a PoC, and it showed itself to reliably backup and restore all of the data we attempted to backup and restore (very large and complex mailboxes and OneDrive contents). Removing this manual process from our regular tasks not only allowed us to focus on tasks more efficiently, but it gave us confidence that data we had archived would be accessible if necessary (such as a FOIA request).

Fortunately, we have not yet been the victim of malicious attack that destroyed our data. It is coming eventually though, and Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 is an important line of defense against such attacks.

We export every former users' data when they leave our organization for required archiving. Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 makes this process simple and straightforward. The Microsoft process for this regularly took days for large datasets.
