Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 does everying Microsoft doesn't!

We are a HIPAA-compliant healthcare facility. Unfortunately, due to the competitive nature of the healthcare industry, we have a high turnover rate with employees moving to competitors. This creates a unique requirement that we keep meticulous records of certain positions. With the shared responsibility model of backups with Microsoft 365, Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 plugs the holes in the limited backup options directly from Microsoft. Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 simplifies the process of backing up Microsoft 365 data while offering a more comprehensive solution. As we migrate more of our data from on-prem file servers to Sharepoint Online, Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 will allow us to make the migration while maintaining our HIPAA compliance.

The IT department started receiving odd requests for email retrieval of former employees who were suspected of communicating private company data with a competitor. Suspicions arose when an employee's email was wiped before departure from the company. With no long-term backup solution available, we demoed the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 product, which fulfilled the needs.

An employee left our organization to work with a competitor. They had work templates on their desktop (which is synced to OneDrive). After a few months, the employee returned and requested access to old data. We were able to retrieve data they requested from a Sharepoint repository well past the 45 days Microsoft offers.

We have not tried these features. However, I plan to use export as a .pst feature as part of my employee departure process.

Retrieval of mailbox items. This is a simple process. Fortunately, there has not been a lot of need for this, however it is good to know it is an option.
