I have four workloads: one is virtual (VMware Workstation Pro 17) and three are Windows physical computers. This was less amount of workloads I was planning to protect. My company has added more after my initial setup, but the additional price for the cloud storage involved has prevented my bosses to authorized more spending on backups.
  • ROI: 6
  • Protecting critical systems that will otherwise will not be protected: 8
  • Peace of mind: 9
My bosses wanted to clean up and consolidate their critical systems outside their computer environment (which is serviced by a third-party company), and also, save some money from their current provider. Therefore, I need to move some phone systems and their network devices. Also an application and data server and some workstations from that MSP to be in-house and in full control of the company. Before using Veeam Data Platform, I used Cloudberry and Infrascale which they have a big issue with data consistency. on backups
We can store backup on AWS which is more reliable that relay on local storage that could also crash on us. AWS is expensive, but since there are no too many workloads to protect and not too many days to keep the backups, it is easy to keep things under cost under control. Our systems need to remain local, so no point on cloud recovery
We have not used that since we do not use NAS and there is no culture of file-sharing
It is good to perform an image backup of application and data servers that are virtualized. The data being backed up is accurate, so you do not run into the issue that you think a backup is truthful; then, the backup contained all data which is useless for your customer. The restoration process is pretty fast.
