Overall Satisfaction with vSphere
We use it to run all our VM's/Servers for the Organization. It helps us to better manage the company and allow us to easily spin up new servers when they are needed by the org.
Pros
- It allows for high availability if you have it setup with redundancy.
- Can segregate VM's to different VLAN's, providing separation of duties.
- Easily manage all servers from one UI Web/(Older Verisons)Client.
Cons
- Some parts are not intuitive and take research or training to figure out.
- Classes to take exams to get certified in vSphere can be expensive.
- ESXi upgrades can be a pain if you are doing them yourself.
- It has been one of the reliable pieces of technology in the organization.
- So easy to spin up a server for testing or for a department need within the org.
- Had a couple times where the N+1 Redundancy saved the Org from noticing an outage and was able to recover without any downtime to the company.
vSphere has more functionality than workstation pro and Hyper-V from Microsoft. It is expensive but for a good reason, the amount of control you have with vSphere is amazing. VMware is constantly adding new features and keeps their software up to date. Hyper-V is great but with how many servers we have in our environment we need more control than what Hyper-V can offer.
