For the price, having all of these features is amazing. If you have separate divisions and want to not have a ton of crossover with calls this is a great setup. It isn’t a great setup if you need only one phone since it doesn’t make sense since you won’t use most of the features.

Pros

8x8 Express

  • Being able to forward calls to my cell phone when I am out of office.
  • So much functionality. So many options.
  • One set price instead of a bunch of add-on fees.

Cisco Headset 700 Series

  • The customization process within the app is a great feature.
  • The headset comes with a rather sturdy carrying case, which gives me peace of mind that my headset will make it back and forth to work in one piece.
  • Although this is a boomless design, I have not had any issues with customers stating they can't hear me or my background it too noisy.

Cons

8x8 Express

  • Setup is a pain.
  • Transferring numbers take a long time.

Cisco Headset 700 Series

  • My biggest problem with the headset is the tension of the headband. When I asked my team what their biggest complaint was, they all responded with the answer; Too tight. I tried wearing this for a couple of back-to-back meetings and I was forced to switch headset towards the end. The flip side of this is that it doesn't easily fall off when on the move but personally I'd prefer a more comfortable fit.
  • Small complaint but annoying... When folding the headset for storage, you have to flip it over before folding the [earpieces] downward to fit in the box. The alternative is to simply store the headset with the [earpieces] facing upwards. (Small OCD problem.)

If you get less than 4 phones you fall into the online only customer service. There were a couple of times that I could have used more assistance but figuring it out online was a bit of a hassle.

Too expensive and too heavy and too uncomfortable. It just didn't deliver the experience that we thought we would get based on the price. I can get the same features, for cheaper, with a more comfortable headset from another vendor. So overall this one just never got put on the final list.

Alternatives Considered

8x8 Express

I love 8x8. Having not used Polycom phones before, the hardest part was learning how to set up and use the actual phones. 8x8 makes it a seamless transition from using other service providers. Their customer service is excellent although if you get their cheapest plan you will only get online assistance.

Cisco Headset 700 Series

Key advantages for the Cisco Headset 700 series include simplicity of connections (no special adapter cables needed), long battery life, and general performance for the price point. Integration with the rest of Cisco's Webex eco-system (the Webex app, and Webex Control Hub) hold promise for future enhancements. Areas for improvement include feature management apps that do not depend on a smartphone, and replaceable earpads.

Return on Investment

8x8 Express

  • We are still learning all the nuances but we miss much fewer calls.
  • Transitioning calls to the appropriate person is much easier.
  • Ease of use.

Cisco Headset 700 Series

  • Too expensive for the ROI to make sense from a feature standpoint when compared to other, cheaper but similar devices with their features.
  • My head hurt after using this headset. It was a little too heavy (maybe I could have gotten used to the weight) and overall it pressed on my ears in a funny way that made it very uncomfortable.
  • It did provide excellent background noise cancellation. on par or maybe even a little better than some other headsets out there.
