Smaller less technically staffed companies should avoid it. For mid-size companies with a serious need for a email solution, it might be worth considering if the staff involved in using the product isn't afraid of technically looking stuff. The staff that runs the servers (if it's on-premises deployment) needs to be fairly technical, and willing to dig into issues and errors that will arise.

Kapost

Kapost has potential to be a great asset in small and large orgs. If you're not producing a great deal of content, or coordinating across a large team, there's still tremendous value, but it scales as your org scales because it makes it easier to coordinate and manage large teams and large content archives.

Pros

  • Overall, the program has great features and is very flexible and easy to manage.
  • Excellent advanced email delivery that also easily integrates well with social and mobile. Also easily allows you to create custom emails for customers.
  • There are multiple ways to achieve the same results - so if one tool doesn't work, you aren't stuck and have other options of getting the same end result.

  • The calendar is a great way to visualize and plan upcoming content publication.
  • Workflow for content production, review and publication is easy to use an effective.
  • Setup is fairly straightforward.
  • Support has been excellent.
  • The solution handles multiple content types well.

Cons

  • There's always room for improvement with the interface. The UI is amazing and works very well, but, as a designer, stuff like this is always a work in progress.
  • A little slow to load – sometimes the program takes a while to start up. I have a high-end Mac, and I'm sure it's not my machine that's the problem.
  • The program crashes every once in a while. It'll just freeze up. Not sure why.

  • Strategist - in some ways it feels that those behind Kapost are good at coming up with a plan and implementing it but do not have a design background. We worked with a design team in the past so we can get frustrated with this.
  • Time zone differences. Whomever the strategist is, it would be better if we worked similar time zones versus having to wait several hours to communicate and get immediate fixes.

Once you go for Neolane you are a bit stuck with it, so we will most likely stay with Neolane. Cost of investment and training are the main factors at work here. We havesimply have invested too much in the product to stop using it after 2 years.That said, my score of 8 does not imply that the product is worthy of getting an 8 but reflects our willingness to renew.Given that upgrading to a new version will cost again a substantial sum, we most likely will keep using the current version we are on which is 6X.

I don't foresee us making a change at this point, however, if a competitive product were available that had the content and workflow capabilities of Kapost, with added social media functionality we might be persuaded to try it

I would say that generally the knowledge of the support team we work with is good, great even.I can't say that they seem to be very interested or involved in trying to make the product work best for us.They do what needs to be done, and they do it well - but not really going the extra mile.

Alternatives Considered

Look, Adobe Campaign is the best program to use for your online media marketing. Adobe understands what online marketers and social media strategists need, and deliver the proper tools necessary for them to be successful. I swear by Adobe, they've earned my trust and I will continue to use their programs throughout my career. Everything else is just...noise. Until I find a program with better customer service than Adobe, I will always be a fanboy.

Kapost solves many project management aspects of creating marketing content. The automated workflows allow for faster setup of common assets and automatically remind team mates of deadlines and upcoming requests. It streamlines content creation. Hootsuite Enterprise was made specifically for social media and at the time of using these products, we were focused primarily on email marketing. Hootsuite is more user friendly and has an excellent customer serivce team in my personal experience

Return on Investment

  • It's driven up our sales/clicks 100%. Now that we're able to target our audience and what drives them, we're able to determine what the best course of action is with our online marketing campaigns.
  • I really wouldn't say there's much of a negative connotation, except for the fact that everything is updated via Adobe Cloud, so it can get kind of pricey if you're a smaller agency – either yearly subscription, or a monthly fee.
