Adobe Connect

Adobe Connect is well suited for education. There is a lot of flexibility in designing the meeting room layout and the ability to have breakout rooms is a major advantage over other platforms. For simple meetings that are just there to have webcams so you can see all the meeting participants (rather than a face-to-face), and do not require sharing many documents, Adobe Connect works well but is overkill and other products would suffice.

GlobalMeet

GlobalMeet is perfect for small office settings that require multiple participants to be involved in a meeting that are in various geographical locations. Often our organization will have participants traveling, sometimes out of the country. Regardless of where they are located, they are able to dial in to meetings. Larger companies may find other platforms more functional for their needs.

Pros

  • The main reason we chose Adobe Connect over other platforms is the robust Breakout Room option. Using Breakout Rooms in a class of 20-30 participants really drives interactivity in a virtual session. Participants love the design of small group activities RVIBE brings to a meeting and Adobe Connect is the tool of choice.
  • Polling is another great feature. The addition of Short answer polls let's our clients gain real insight into what their participants want. To be able to use polls in the event and not have to email them out our clients receive instant feedback and higher participation rating.
  • Custom pods. Adobe allows company's like RVIBE to create custom pods. RVIBE has created a GameShow Pod that helps drive gamification within an event. All RVIBE clients get to use this Pod free of charge and we have received great feedback . Its a simple pod that amplifies interactivity past what you can do in a live non virtual setting. RVIBE also has what we call our Vusion Pod. This brings HD quality video to the Adobe Connect environment. RVIBE is able to run multiple Adobe Connect sessions at the same time and with the Vusion Pod we can broadcast a live unified message to all sessions simultaneously. Think of a conference Town Hall then everyone goes to their small breakout sessions. With Adobe Connect and RVIBE Vusion you can conduct a Virtual Conference with a unified Town Hall!
  • The ability to Bridge TC systems and still conduct Breakout sessions is a great add for clients that are afraid to move to VoIP or just prefer TC over VoIP.

  • Consistent dial-in and conference lines instead of these changing for each call you set up. Consistency makes the information easy to remember and quick to add to meeting invites.
  • Post-conference recap emails help you collect data on who attended, how long they were dialed-in, and their phone # in case you need to reach out to them again for follow-up.
  • Audio quality is excellent. We've never experienced connection issues or dropped calls like we have with other vendors.

Cons

  • High Definition - It seems that no matter where you look, modern cameras are capable of capturing high definition video footage. Adobe needs to think about finding a way to upgrade the video quality and consistency that is viewable by the audience. There is the "least common denominator" factor to consider, but that is quickly rising, allowing better video opportunities.
  • HTML5 - As technology advances, so should Adobe. HTML5 offers the potential to hold meetings on any device despite its platform.
  • Flash - Quickly on its way out. It was one of the most proliferative installations on everyone's computer and in its time was stupendous. But it is quickly becoming dated. With the advent of HTML5, flash is quickly not becoming needed in order to have cross-platform content happen. With a strong push by Adobe, this could quickly become a reality for Connect.

  • There is a cost for the conferencing services unlike competitors like FreeConferenceCall.com or Skype which have free options. However, you pay for what you get and the audio/connection quality can and has been an issue for us with other vendors.
  • There are a lot of shortcuts that can be used on the line to mute/unmute lines, record the audio, request operator assistance, etc. However, these are difficult to memorize so we end up forgetting or relying on a print-out of the shortcuts that we keep near our desks. I wish there was an easier way to use these such as voice commands.
  • In the post-conference email recaps you get the phone numbers of those who dialed in. However, it can be difficult to know who these numbers belong to unless you remember the direct #s for the participants. I wish there was a way to save contact info for certain phone numbers within the system and let GlobalMeet add the names to the numbers for all future post-conference emails.

Likelihood to Renew

Adobe Connect10.0
Based on 27 answers
The only reason I would see us renewing our contract is once again pricing, but also fear of switching. We cannot be certain that we won't encounter the same reliability, communication, and complexity issues we've experiences with the Adobe Connect software. I think this holds us back from switching, but ultimately, because of the vast and varied problems we've experienced with the platform, I do not believe we should or will renew our contract with Adobe Connect.

For the most part GlobalMeet loaded everything quickly. The only problem that we had was when the whole company was on a training at one time, we had a hard time with screen sharing and the pages loading in a timely manner. Everything seemed to slow down when lots of people were on the system at once

Implementation

Adobe Connect7.9
Based on 4 answers
Prices do not seem to vary much among resellers of the Adobe Connect hosted license; the only price variation you're likely to find are among the audio providers. When implementing, you may also wish to look into expanding the amount of storage you are allowed on the server to avoid any problems later on as your library of files starts to build up

Alternatives Considered

In the past, I have had experience with Wimba and with GoTo Meeting for virtual sessions. Both posed many technological issues that are not as prevalent with Adobe Connect. Adobe Connect is far superior in the ability to share content, files and screens to give participants real-time support and information. Adobe Connect has features that allows for clarity, engagement activities and chat options to ensure participants have the information they need and a voice that can be heard.

GlobalMeet just was the better option just because of ease of use. The interface is easy to use and learn and it offers all of the features I needed. The price was just right as well. I never liked WebEx and GoToMeeting feels like it lacks a little. Blue Jeans to me was too complicated and Adobe Connect has too many features for my purpose

Return on Investment

  • Adobe Connect has increased student success and student relationships with instructors.
  • Employees are now able to log-in for meetings that fit around their schedule while still being able to view archives for missed information.
  • Employees from a variety of places are able to come together to gain insights on best practices, new college initiatives and state of the college as well as share ideas.

  • This would be a question better suited for my IT team, but I would say that one of the big positive I have seen from having GlobalMeet is simply that it has made flexibility a possibility at our company. We are able to have online meetings easily and without any of the pains we used to experience. The team is happier and more productive.
  • I can't think of any negative impact honestly! Learning the software was really easy and it didn't take long at all for everyone to be comfortable with the product and start using it.
