For a small employer, with very little turnover and few benefit options, ADP may be too costly for the benefit. There are many affordable payroll providers available for small organizations.For large employers with many benefits options, employees in multiple locations, multiple tax jurisdictions and varied pay types (salary, hourly, commission, etc), ADP is ideal. The extended customer service hours, extensive resources for international pay, and capability for multi state taxation is crucial for an international employer.

Other products in the same category as Kenexa 2x BrassRing would be Taleo and PeopleFluent. I would also look into Avature as an ATS option. I am currently on the sourcing side of the recruitment process and use Avature for tracking and candidate mining purposes. I would recommend getting any kind of demo possible since the user interfaces vary quite a bit between them. Ease of use and overall stability should be kept in mind when comparing ATS prices.

Pros

  • The blending of all aspects of HR in ADP makes the system use very fluid. We like that we can have the employee in the system from hire to retire.
  • Allowing employees to have access to their own information is very empowering for them. We like that employees can look at their benefit enrollments, tax information and address along with their payroll history. This is very empowering from an employee standpoint.
  • From a manager standpoint I feel that the system gives the manager great power to make decisions. It can be simple things like workforce planning but also things along the lines of performance evaluations and annual reviews and pay increases.
  • Reporting abilities are AMAZING. You can get a report on basically anything you want in ADP. It can be a challenge to find out how to get that information into a report but the Customer Service help when it comes to custom reporting is great.

Cons

  • Managers would like a link to their Outlook calendar for all of their reports' vacation time. Currently, the employee will get a link to add to their personal Outlook just not the managers.
  • Would like to see real time changes when updating any of the configurations pages. It is a pain to have to log off and log back on to see how the changes look.

  • With Kenexa's acquisition by IBM, the ticket and support process became more difficult.
  • With resources like IBM behind Kenexa, I was hoping to see things move faster but updates to functionality have come at a slower pace than expected. When new features are added, they are not fully functional at launch e.g. mobile job search and mobile apply - they are communicating that both functionalities are ready however when working through the projects to turn on both, we have discovered a lot of limitations and functionality that have made us hesitant to go live with a less than great experience for our users.
  • No one can clearly communicate the roadmaps for new features and enhancements - we often get conflicting information depending on who you talk to.

We have used Kenexa BrassRing since 2001, it wasn't even called BrassRing then. Our systems and procedures are so embedded in using BrassRing it would require a significant financial commitment from management to make a change.

The payroll support is excellent, but the support on the technical side is lacking. The support for the portal is especially lacking. I think they need more training to be able to serve the customer more efficiently. I have had issues with employees not being able to log in even after resetting the password, and have had to call back a couple of different times to get results. Luckily I don't have issues that I need to call them about very often.

There Tier 1 support is not knowledgable and things that should take less than 1 day can take 3-4 weeks to get resolved.

The instructions from the recruiting agency on how to use the system was pretty straightforward. It provided step-by-step procedures on where you would need to log in your hours as well as what you would need to highlight (i.e. regular, overtime, etc.) detailing the type of hours that were worked overall. The handout also provided some pictures of the application

Implementation

Either assign more than one specialist to the implementation process, or assign less clients to the implementation specialist. The process requires attention to detail and the ability to test and re-test as well as verify the information. It also requires a lot of back and forth between the client ant the implementation specialist, so they need to be readily available during the whole implementation process.

Alternatives Considered

Prior to our switch to ADP in 2009, we used Abra and had to manually enter timecards and record time. The flow in ADP Workforce Now is wonderful!

I did not have much to do with the selection process, but I found out that OpenHire was in the running, which is the worst system I have ever worked with. I was able to share my OpenHire experience, and hopefully that assisted with the selection of Kenexa. Compared to other systems I have worked with Kenexa is a superior system on the recruitment side

Return on Investment

  • As a payroll manager and senior analyst, a quicker payroll processing has freed up substantial time for me to further develop financial metrics and focus on growing our company's profitability.
  • Far fewer payroll errors leads to improved employee moral and less time fixing said errors.

  • One positive is the reporting feature and being able to pull OFCCP reports easily.
  • One negative is we failed internal audits because we were not integrated with our current HCM and there was not a smooth data flow all the way until the candidate was hired.
  • We did like that the recruiters could source out of the system.
