Human service organizations with a case management framework are best served by use of this software. It can serve any size organization with 1 or multiple programs. The organization should have an individual or 2 to dedicate time as administrators of the software. They will need to understand data, software design, and the needs of the organization in order to best customize and manage the software.

I feel the way Luminate handles donor information is very organized and full. I am a database/reports person so I love how easy it is to find and process information. Some portals don't allow that much information into donor's profiles but Luminate provides a lot of room for history and bio information that is great for reports.

  • Apricot allows us to organize our client data and run reports more efficiently.
  • Apricot upgrades its features on a routine basis to meet the needs of the customer, including its secure web form feature.
  • Apricot has fashionable and accessible technical assistance, including direct chat, videos, boot camps (virtual), and recommended 3rd party consultant support.
  • The variety of filtering attributes to run reports is very impressive.
  • The versatility in configuring reports helps us to be able to meet the reporting requirements of different funder frameworks.

  • House Donor Information. Easy report pulling. Queries and lists.
  • I like how everything is housed on one platform. Webpages, emails and donor profiles. User friendly.
  • It works nicely with other blackbaud products such as Raiser's Edge. Easy importing and exporting options.

Cons

  • Sometimes I found the step-by-step instructions hard to follow. Luckily Apricot has video tutorials and that usually helped me figure things out.
  • There were just a few times early on that I thought a couple minor pieces of info disappeared after I entered them.

  • Calendar Event forms, the basic event form in Luminate, have been a struggle for us. They are currently not mobile responsive, are structured to sell tickets rather than register people for events and, unfortunately, these are the only forms other than Team Raiser that accept monetary transactions. If you are looking at using Calendar Events, look closely and do a lot of investigation. This is a step down from our previous tool (Blackbaud Sphere)
  • The lack of ability to batch/globally update groups of records from inside the tool is annoying. Currently, one must export a list and then import the list back into batch update a group of records. This is a step down from our previous tool (Blackbaud Sphere).
  • There is no zip code radius pull in the email tool in Luminate. We do a lot of local events and programs and this is something we absolutely must use. Our previous tool (Blackbaud Sphere) had a radius tool that we relied upon quite heavily.

It has most of the functionality that you need but is not the easiest or most intuitive product to use. While it's email module isn't as good as say MailChimp and surveys aren't as good as SurveyMonkey, having it all in one product does make a difference.

Pages load fast and 98% of the reports do run in a matter of secons/minutes. There is this one report I have that can take hours to run, but this is due to the amount of transactions being requested for one of our biggest online fundraising events (Transaction report)

All of our needs have been met quickly and professionally. I have been able to place a phone call and quickly get to a technician that was able to resolve our issue within 10 or 15 minutes. I have also submitted a case through email and that worked very well also.

Initial training was great and the instructor was very patient and helpful during the set up process. Blackbaud has a variety on online self-paced classes that supplement the training you receive. The only downfall is after training is complete. I've found the support for Luminate to be a tad lackluster. We often encounter issues that aren't on Luminate's development road map and have had a series of cases be opened.

We used a proprietary program for our CRM that was over a decade old. For email contact, we used VoterVoice, which was easier to use and less expensive, BUT it did not allow for integration with a CRM and it did not create truly unique contact files. (In other words, people would often have multiple 'accounts' and deduping was not easy. Deducing in Luminate is VERY easy and a huge help.

I will have to say that it is not 100% up time but I will put it at around 99% and when that odd time they had a hardware failure. Their support team kept us updated very frequently until the matter was resolved as well as afterwards on step to prevent the issue from repeating again and to improve response times.

  • The program has allowed me to generate detailed reports on the outcomes of my program which I have used to sustain funding for my program.
  • Apricot is easy to use which saves me time, and time is money!
  • I use the search feature to collect a quick snapshot on a specific issue before going to meetings. This allows me to present fresh information to my funders.

  • We've increased our online giving +200% although this is due in part to our focus on the channel and not entirely on the product.
  • We've been able to increase employee efficiency by selecting email lists per message within Luminate Online. With our prior solution we needed to request data be pulled from our database for event email.
  • We've really done a great job of growing our online tribute and memorial giving through the use of custom links and the pre-populated information has really helped with the back end processing.
