Apricot by Social Solutions

I believe that Apricot is awesome to use if you are attempting to track or log client data. This system has the ability to be tailored to the needs of your program, and possibly going paperless. I do not think that it would be beneficial to use apricot to track/log financials that are not attached to clients.

Salesforce for Nonprofits

I think Salesforce is great any time you want to keep track of a large number of people and how they connect to your organization. This may not be great if you always work with the same 100 people and they are easy to keep a handle on or if you just don't have time to learn a fairly complex database. In that case, you may find a simpler system more worthwhile.

  • Salesforce for Nonprofits provides free resources to connect with other nonprofit/organizational professionals and learn from them; they also provide learning resources on their Trailblazer platform.

Apricot by Social Solutions

  • We believe Apricot could offer secure web forms beyond the restricted 'Tier 1' allowance. In other words, currently, secure web forms are only available as options for Tier 1 records. This means we cannot have live registration for Tier 2 records, which is very restrictive, seeing as we would like to capture data as clients sign in at events or trainings we have.
  • We would like to see a feature similar to what TurboTax presents on its site that prompts you with questions to better generate the next step. In an Apricot case, it would generate these prompts to help us build our reports. We have the criteria we're looking to fulfill, we just need to better reproduce it in the sections on the Apricot report and this type of functionality would help.

Salesforce for Nonprofits

  • We occasionally struggle with marketing cloud. It is a very robust tool and does not always seem to work well for our needs. We are working to improve it but it is proving to be a challenging tool.
  • Chatter has worked very well for our organization as it provides a history of all that has happened in the system. We attempted to consolidate all communications in one platform (chatter) but employees are not as comfortable using the solution for everyday communications as it part of our system of record. It does work for social communication but our staff is not comfortable using it.
  • Some of the integrations that we try and do are difficult and fragile at times. There has been improvement but integrations are always a concern.

I went to the Summit a few weeks ago to learn about the future expansion and vision of Social Solutions. I already been with Apricot for 5 years and researched other products I still come back to Apricot and where it can grow with us.

I think Salesforce has so much functionality that it makes it difficult in terms of overall usability. Once you can figure it out, it's a 10/10, it's just getting there. If you're willing to do the work to figure it out then you're golden. For what it's worth, I don't know if you're going to find something with this level of functionality that's easier to figure out

Support is good because there is a vast community available for help. It is the largest CRM and market leader so most use cases have been done before. There are also evangelists of the platform that are always looking to help in the community with issues and problems.

I was not personally involved in choosing Apricot but know that our ED spent 2 years researching, comparing, and trying other software before choosing Apricot. I have used Cap60 in the past and did not feel that it was able to meet the needs of every program operated under that particular Community Action Agency's umbrella of services.

Salesforce for Nonprofits

Salesforce for Nonprofits is much more flexible than other tools I've used in the past. You aren't limited to staying with one company's suite of products - you have the ability to build out your database / fundraising solution using best in class applications. It also has a different pricing model - it's all based on users and storage, opposed to a blanket platform fee.

Apricot by Social Solutions

  • Apricot by Social Solutions has streamlined communication within our organization. Within the system you can set up emails to be sent when certain conditions are met. We use these email alerts to tell our case managers when they have been assigned a client, to tell supervisors when documents need to be signed, to let our finance department know when clients under specific grants have entered or left a program, etc. In 9 months of partial implementation, over 6,000 emails have been sent through Apricot.
  • Apricot by Social Solutions has given us a real picture of how clients interact with our programs. For example, we thought that our Clothing & Household Goods program primarily served the same clients who come for breakfast or lunch. We've discovered that is not the case, and we meet unique clients through that program.
  • Apricot by Social Solutions has improved our follow up with clients. For example, in our Employment Program, we should be following up with clients 30, 60, and 90 days after they are placed in a job. We have set up a report through Apricot that tells staff which clients have hit the 30, 60, and 90 days with their contact information right in the report.

Salesforce for Nonprofits

  • We applied to the foundation and got free licenses for Salesforce so it was not a risky upfront financial investment for us. It has been a very helpful and useful CRM and donor management system for us.
  • Learning Salesforce is very challenging and has created a lot of frustration amongst our staff. There are not a lot of local resources in our more rural community to get assistance or training on Salesforce.
  • The HUB/community of users on Salesforce is very helpful and supportive. Whenever I pose a question I always get responses. Unfortunately, most of those people are much more advanced than I am so often, I don't understand their answers to my questions.
