AVI-SPL can be a bit higher, but they are able to help with more technical support in building solutions better than others. They are slightly more expensive, but it can be worth it in the long run.
Often with non-profits, the buyer side lacks technical expertise and has to rely on vendors like AVI-SPL. They are honest and not trying to upsell you into equipment that is more than you need or more expensive. They can advise on specific cabling scenarios and complex mounting to achieve the best result.
Works well if you want to 1) Fulfill your own eComm orders. 2) Want the ability to do dropship with 3rd party retailers. 3) Want LOT# control (e.g. if you're in the food industry). There are a plethora of companies that can do ecomm fulfillment but they don't have the ability to do option 2 & 3.
We have Google Room. This isn't much of an AVI-SPL issue. But maybe just setting up a demo model of this system and see how it works. I know you guys don't set this software up often, but for a smaller office like us it may be more prevalent. But all in all it isn't a very complicated system to just figure out on your own. What I like most about the system is that I am able to change settings if needed through the Google admin portal, which is nice!
Very hard to find the products you're looking for on the site if you don't already know exactly what you're trying to find. Lots of similar/identical products with uninformative naming conventions.
Poor faceted navigation.
Entire site is painfully slow.
The policy of automatically closing inactive accounts after 12 months, with no ability to re-open it upon customer request, is crazy.
Pricing on most commonplace IT products (outside of things like HPE servers) is not competitive at all, it's almost always cheaper to just buy on Amazon, and even when Ingram is cheaper, the difference is so negligible it's pointless to bother.
They are a great company to work with overall, but there is always room for improvement. We have had incredibly positive experiences with our main sales rep for any and all purchases. The installation team in southwest VA is lacking and lead to quite a lot of issues on a large scale project last year.
They had us replace the PC three times stating that the PSU was not strong enough to power the USB bus. The last PC had a 1500w PSU. The USB devices kept not working because they had too many USB devices connected. We had to hire another company to come out and fix this mistake as well. They redesigned the solution to get the features that we requested from the beginning and something that would work correctly
ABSOLUTELY! I have contacted them multiple times. They are responsive, knowledgeable, and know who to make the return calls to make service as efficient as possible. They will listen to the issue, document it, and provide the most knowledgeable technician to assist. I utilize their remote support often as I am versed in A/V technology and can work with technicians without them having to come to our site. I love having that option.
Given a caveat that this project had major changes to overcome, I would say AVI-SPL did about as well as any large installer out there could do under the circumstances.
We've gone through a few AV partners since developing our AV program. We started with a small local shop, but they didn't have the expertise as we scaled. We moved to a larger local shop, but they struggled to provide support and I don't believe their designs were optimal. Our third go-round with a national firm seemed fine at first, but eventually they too were unable to provide the level of support we needed. So far, AVI-SPL has been getting us taken care of.
