Cisco UCS Series

Cisco UCS is a great foundation on which to build your enterprise-class server infrastructure. It is not a good fit for small companies because the networking components would be too costly to implement. Cisco UCS blades and rack-mount servers are relatively easy to manage through the UCS console, where you can apply blade profiles and create automation to help provision new servers, etc.

IBM Power System IC922

IBM Power System LC922 is a great platform that is adequate and highly
suited for teams, organizations, and projects that are of a huge and great size
and can also handle complex data workloads because in my opinion IBM Power
System LC922 delivers the best results with heavier workloads. Also, it offers
reliable solutions to users with no hindrances left in the performance.

Pros

Cisco UCS Series

  • Cisco UCS servers are really excellent hypervisor hosts. They were built for it and one can tell that they were. They also have nice add-on features that you can buy when you first get them, but you can also add a lot of features later on.
  • Cisco USC servers, exactly like their HP analogues, HP ProLiant servers, are very robust, extremely reliable and have really excellent management tools. You don't have to pay or an iLo subscription on UCS servers like you do on HP ProLiants, however. A USC server comes with the "CIMC" or "Cisco Integrated Management Controller" which is obviously pretty much exactly the same thing as an iLo.
  • You can get parts for Cisco UCS server super fast (depending on your SmartNet plan type) and the support (through TAC) is unbeatable.

IBM Power System IC922

  • IBM Power System IC922 has a very high speed plus it also has high availability which means customers can have access to their data easily without any downtime.
  • We have been using IBM Power System IC922 in some of our scenarios where developers needed good software.
  • IBM Power System IC922 beautifully highlights and signifies the main business issue of having to hire more people as my company is still on the way to growth.
  • Technical team is corporative.

Cons

Cisco UCS Series

  • Price - typically a little higher priced compared to similar hardware.
  • This product could be improved if it allowed other memory choices besides Cisco memory. You cannot simply add more memory that is not from Cisco. You have to purchase their memory which is more expensive than other memory choices.
  • Setup is a little complicated at first. Once set up and running there isn't much to configure later.

IBM Power System IC922

  • The IBM documentation can be improved as it has many features that we couldn't understand how it works and I couldn't find it in the document.
  • It is robust and takes a long time to master everything.

Usability

Cisco UCS Series

Cisco UCS Series 7.9

While Cisco's hardware is solid and long running, their software is usually the weak point. I will say that they are getting better with each release but if I had to find a problem with usability that would be it. Overall usability is good when you can work around software issues.

Cisco UCS Series

Cisco UCS Series 8.1
Based on 16 answers
Cisco support for the UCS is the same experience you will have with most of their other product lines. And what you've come to experience is short wait times for tier 1 issues and quick callbacks for others. The same goes for their UCS line and also hardware turnaround is very fast. When we have a high priority ticket we can literally call and be on the phone with someone within minutes, and as you know when you're under the gun each minute is crucial.

Cisco UCS Series

We do have a Cisco C service server but that was never configured in a production environment as it was solely used for R&D purposes. Cisco UCS is very compact with easy to install. 8 Full and 16 half fits in 1 chassis and is very easy to upgrade both vertically and horizontally. we were also able to expand the number of virtual machines growing vertically by adding additional RAM on all the blades without even investing in additional chassis or blades.

IBM Power System IC922

IBM Power System IC922 is simply more efficient at AI-driven tasks, and that is why it was chosen over the FlashSystem, which we used for low latency data delivery.
