Crunchbase is well suited for doing a preliminary analysis of a private company. As a result of the user interface being easy to navigate, analysis can be completed in a quick and efficient manner. The web and mobile app data is also likely to be useful for sales personnel to gauge consumer traffic and interest in companies.

If you are trying to get your foot in the door within a company and haven't found any luck with more traditional prospecting tools, UpLead can give it to you in a snap. There are so many contacts to fill your prospecting pipeline with no end in sight! I have been able to find key people within the company that make decisions that impact my business. We all know the "gatekeepers" don't just give away information, so it is important for us to do all of the research we can to make the sale. UpLead bridges that gap.

  • If you attempt to download a person's contact information and the email address is not 100% confirmed, you see a notification informing you of this.
  • I can call up a list of companies in an industry, access names by title, then download all the leads into an Excel spreadsheet quickly.
  • UpLead has a knowledgeable support team.
  • Training
  • Back up support is strong and you can schedule appointments for demos with ease.

Cons

Crunchbase

  • Timely data. We also use Owler for company funding alerts. Since Owler scans the web for press releases from the set of companies you follow, it is often more "on time" when it comes to major funding rounds. Crunchbase usually catches up within the month.
  • There are data discrepancies sometimes between a company profile on Crunchbase vs that company's profile on LinkedIn. It could be that Crunchbase is more accurate, but we just don't know.

  • It is not very intuitive to navigate at times, especially in doing mass email campaigns, but their Help section is excellent, so I saved that link and also printed out the steps.

Crunchbase

Crunchbase is the best resource for prospecting startups hands down. TechTarget has a lot of useful info, but I found it to be inaccurate where it mattered most. Crunchbase's data seems more accurate, and is also easier to use. Not the most exact comparison, but they offer similar background information.

UpLead

UpLead has a much bigger database than SalesIntel and also has data for many more countries than SalesIntel. Additionally, the filters that UpLead offers are higher and much more relevant when it comes to really slice and dice the data sets. It is one of the top products in the segment and comes at a very affordable price.

  • Crunchbase has been great and given us a lot of new companies to go after that have received funding and turned into great meetings. We do not pay a ton, so the ROI is great.
  • We have nothing but positive results using Crunchbase and rely on it heavily for prospecting.
  • It might add more value if we get a more expensive or advanced version.

  • I haven't been using UpLead long but I have generated interest in our company with several large accounts. Each one of them can add several million in revenue to our company.
  • A huge time saver is to be able to send out email blasts to potential clients I've downloaded from UpLead.
  • Securing any one of the prospects I'm working on through UpLead can easily pay for the investment 10 times over.
  • Most of the salespeople in our company are asking me where I'm getting my leads from.
