Micro Focus Asset Manager

Asset Manager is great for people who understand the Software Development Lifecycle and are familiar with the terminology, however for a new assistant, or a new novice user, the software can seem over-whelming with the rather confusing terminology and a multitude of tabs that open up. It's definitely great software to use for a professional PM, however an assistant would be lost in the tools being offered.

ServiceNow

The tool is great, very powerful and provides so many valuable features used in large companies. The product is very integrated and provides amazing customization and dash-boarding options. I have looked at several ITSM products, and ServiceNow is by far the best product I have worked with. Everything is thought out and you will not find any feature or function it is missing.

  • ServiceNow does a great job in creating a one-stop shop for ticketing for any organization large or small. The system has the ability to scale easily to both internal and external customers.
  • ServiceNow has the ability to scale beyond ticketing to include contract and project management modules to further support one single operation for administration.
  • ServiceNow integrates very well with Microsoft Active Directory.
  • ServiceNow has a very robust set of permissions and rules you can apply for a high level of security.

Cons

Micro Focus Asset Manager

  • Need more video tutorials - Although HP has great FAQs and has included the keyword search for topics, but some video tutorials would be great to help a new user.
  • Overwhelming at times. I remember when I first started using the software, just the magnitude of tools were too much. However even though I don't use half the tools even now, just the possibility of more functions available to me, makes it a great software.
  • Secure Log-in - I would like HP to invest into single sign-on where you don't need to put in your user ID & password constantly. A push notification to a personal device would a great added feature.

  • ServiceNow knowledgebase is limited for self-learning on how to use their features.
  • ServiceNow sometimes has a very linear approach to some workflows or assignments where there could only be one child/parent relationship.
  • The ServiceNow features for Project Management serves its function is rather cumbersome. The dependencies aspect or predecessors or successors options are rather limited. It is more focused on hours planned vs hours worked then dependencies.
  • ServiceNow customer support is hit or miss. They could serve to have more self-help step by step articles.
  • ServiceNow needs to have a better export or import features for their Project Management module.

To type in what should be a text box, you have to click an empty cell, a tiny text box pop up opens with a check box and an X. You the. Type in the text box and have to click the check mark. If you have a bunch of fields to fill out, doing this is very annoying. Absolutely know thought went in to this. I'm sure somebody in marketing thought it was a good idea. It wasn't.

Alternatives Considered

Micro Focus Asset Manager

HP Asset Manager is definitely enterprise grade, whereas the other asset Management programs I have are specific to either one industry or a smaller locations that might not need the deep analysis & reporting functionalities & tools that are provided by HP. The cost is indeed higher than other programs like Fox Graphic Tracker (Internal Software) and Samange that I have used in the past, but for a large enterprise with multiple ongoing projects, HP Asset Manager is the way to go !

In my opinion, ServiceNow has no competitors in the space it operates. It is best in class, and it really is just a decision on a specific module of ServiceNow against what ever other tool you are comparing against it. As a whole, the out of box ITIL package is best in breed.

  • HP Asset Manager is great for compliance purposes. We know we have all the licenses in place when needed for upgrades or yearly reviews. Saves us times.
  • Ability to track & print reports saves PMs time in quartely reviews.
  • Great way to prepare for any presentations by the use of analytical tools which saves us money in investing in other software for presentation purposes.

  • Alert >> Monitoring response team - Servicenow has provided our monitoring teams with the ability to quickly set up automation, notifications, and response management off importing data, aggregating it, and using it for queries both on / off the platform. Our ability to identify the specific alerts to focus on has increased in efficiency
  • Incident Coordinator / Critical Response team - has built many notifications, messaging, and response layers of automation to provide them with a simple form that allows them to create historical data to describe alerts/incidents, measure and compare issues, find and resolve the issues, then communicate out to various pockets of people. Their team's reach and capability to contact different segments of people (consistently and accurately) has been a direct result of their use of ServiceNow. Even better, everything is controlled from fewer interfaces, making their reach..greater, but their process...simpler.
  • Help Desk team - utilizes the bevy of information we can aggregate in ServiceNow, to solve every problem we have here at Wayfair. Whether its a customer issue or a password reset, our Help Desk is enabled to research, read/listen, communicate, and work to resolve each and every issue that plagues us. This team is our biggest supporter of ServiceNow, and is actively at the forefront of new automation in each and every one of our sprints. Wayfair is growing rapidly, and in order to support this growth (without massive complementary hiring) we look to ServiceNow to provide them that exponential capacity.
