We utilize CMiC across the organization. Everyone uses it in some capacity. We utilize it for timekeeping, project management, AP, payroll, etc.
  • The reporting tools are great
  • Customizable
  • Some functionality could be improved
  • It's not that intuitive.
It's hard to find a software that works for all departments. However, I think, over time, CMiC is working for us. It's been a long road, but I feel like we are finally reaping the benefits of switching to CMiC Construction Platform.

I use CMiC for recording meeting minutes, construction submittal/RFIs and managing cost. It’s only used by our construction department. The biggest problem it solves is giving us one location to store information regarding a project. Having all the items listed above in one location makes it easier for us to share information with the design team and owner.
  • Submittal sand RFI: CMiC does a great job of allowing submittals and RFI to be submitted, reviewed and tracked.
  • CMiC provides a great platform for creating meeting minutes.
  • Cost management: CMiC is great for managing the the overall budget for a project.
  • Change Orders: creating and tracking change orders in CMiC can be a little clunky, for example when a potential change item is added to a change order it does lock it out from being selected for a different change order.
  • Transmittal: there is a lot of information on the transmittal sheet that we don’t use.
  • Setting up the architect to be able to review submittals and RFIs was difficult and it took a few weeks to work out the bugs.
CMiC is a great platform for housing meeting information including agendas, minutes and site photographs. It is great for processing RFIs and submittals for the project team to review. It’s not well suited for field reports. Although it is easy to complete and upload field reports, it’s extremely clumsy to search the field reports for specific information if you don’t know the date something happened.

It is used across the organization. CMiC is used across the organization as complete project control. For example, scheduling, RFI’s, etc.
  • Keeps projects on schedule
  • Timesheets
  • Very organized
  • More functional across platforms.
  • Integrate more effectively across departments.
CMiC is fairly new to me in my role. However, it has been extremely effective as timesheet software thus far.

CMiC has been implemented company-wide. We are primarily a CM (Construction Management) company. We use this for all aspects of our company from time entry, accounting, project management, document management, submittals, etc. Its main benefit is that it's able to handle the financials and project management aspects in one system.
  • Tracking of RFI's and submittals.
  • Tracking of PCI's and SCO's.
  • Tracking current budget costs and how much is left to spend.
  • The reports generated from CMiC are bulky and often do not show what is desired. There is a need to create custom reports for many things.
  • The mobile field apps have a ton of problems and crash often. They are user-friendly but do not function consistently.
  • Browsing through documents on a desktop is rather clunky and not very smooth.
Works well for a company that wants a system that combines financial and project management in one system. However, the support system for CMiC is not great and the system takes a knowledgeable user to set it up for the company and to have as a point of contact and training for other users. You will need to invest time in a group of knowledgeable users as well as outside training to make sure the system is being used correctly.

At Brinkman, we use CMiC to manage all of our projects, especially for project financials. On the PM side, we run all of our RFIs, Submittals, minutes, & change requests through the system.
  • Cost tracking
  • Cloud Access
  • Navigation
  • User Interface is very outdated.
  • Needs a drawing management tool.
This platform is well-suited for general construction use. It probably is less appropriate for other industries.

We use the platform across the whole company from project management to accounting to payroll. It addresses several of the facets of the business and allows them to cohesively "talk" to one another.
  • Project financial forecasting: has good ability to manage all costs from one screen which is a great time saver and gives you the ability to see the effects of your changes real-time.
  • Invoice review and approval gives you the ability to review the data and actual invoice (PDF) and make real time changes as necessary.
  • Production of various reports that relate to the content they were created from.
  • Accessing different projects as if you were in a data base is troublesome. Running server queries and constantly having to type in your project is time consuming.
  • When creating timesheets, I don't have the ability to copy lines that I've already created. I'm forced to start from scratch on every line which is time-consuming. I also don't have a function to copy previous timesheets when I know the information from the previous week will be the same as the current week I'm about to populate.
  • In the forecasting and financial modules, CMiC can get quite glitchy with the internet platform. I run Firefox and Google. What happens is the financial matrix on the screen starts to detach itself, meaning when you scroll on the screen some of the columns move and others don't. The information becomes misaligned and you have to back out and start again.
  • CMiC very much needs a way to customize meeting minutes. It's very very troublesome to group topics or add subject matter to a new item to an existing topic. The UI should be more fluid and usable so the user can add lines where ever they need to and have the item number expand to incorporate that.
  • Customer service really likes to argue and debate issues we have. The attitude they have is that CMiC is correct and the user is the issue. We have had several issues especially in payroll where things were wrong. We were forced to created case studies over time to prove the point. This seems exactly the opposite of the purpose of customer service.
CMiC seems well suited for financial activity, invoice management, and pretty much most things that would act like data entry into a server where the program can process the data and provide a response or a report. Where CMiC seems to struggle is having an intuitive user interface where the user has the ability to customize the module to suit their needs. A great example is the lack of customization in creating meeting minutes and the lack of ability to actively update the minutes and see previous notes. You have to print your previous minutes and have them on the side of the screen to be able to run a meeting and update the minutes at the same time. Most people have laptops in a meeting and don't have the luxury of two monitors. Due to this, I handwrite notes to later update CMiC. This is very time-consuming. Software such as Procore allows you to easily see and update your minutes all in one place.

CMiC Construction Platform is being used by the entire organization. It is primarily used for field management and reporting back to the office. Daily Journals, Submittals, and photos make up the main uses for CMiC. We also use it for Request for Information (RFIs), which help us get on the fly answers from owners and architects.
  • Daily Journals
  • Photos
  • Request for Information
  • Old GUI (interface)
  • Has a old database feel
  • Loading times can be extensive
There is potential for this software to get on the same playing field as Procore and other management platforms (PlanGrid, etc). For construction, the CMiC GUI can be quite difficult for novice users. I highly recommend making this more user-friendly, and I can see CMiC Construction Platform gaining traction in the industry.

CMiC Construction Platform is used mainly by the construction team. We use it to notify the architect and ownership team to send out RFIs, submittals, and change orders. Whether this is to send directly via the platform, or using it to manage any signed documents. This helps keep all of the construction-related items scheduled so that we all know what is coming, what is outstanding, and what is in whose court.
  • Potential Change Items: It helps let everyone on the team know what are the costs that pertain to specific projects.
  • RFIs: It is very clear as to whether an RFI is still open, or has been returned.
  • Submittals: It's able to export a submittal log directly from CMiC, and filtering by date, allowing the team to see what is outstanding and what the responsibility is of everyone to complete said tasks.
  • Submittals: The submittals, when closed, remain on the taskbar. When you have over 200 submittals and cannot remove them from the desktop, it causes the overall system to take a long time to load.
CMiC is well suited for many construction needs, being able to manage RFIs, submittals, and change orders to name a few. If a construction company needs a system to manage these items and more, CMiC can work well. It is a great system to keep everything in one place. The one thing CMiC lacks is when using it with another financial software, as the budget can get confusing since the software does not interact well and can cause issues.

We use CMiC Construction Platform throughout the whole organization. We use it to budget and forecast project costs, time cards for employees, manage changes, keep track of to-dos, scheduling of projects and invoice clients.
  • Track job site activity and progress. It saves time in production meetings. It’s easy to update. Clients can receive weekly updates on the status of the project.
  • Track change orders and manage pricing for projects.
  • Share files and photos. We can take photos of site issues or conditions that require attention.
Change orders and expense tracking can show clients the status of the project and insure that we can get paid faster. Handles budget costs for the project.

We are using CMIC Enterprise and Field desktop applications for all of our accounting and project management needs across our entire organization except at the field level. CMiC helps with data integration, reduces the use of spreadsheets, and reduces the amount of paper handling. We are looking forward to using the mobile applications once CMIC has made them as useful as its competitors.
  • Very good integration between financial and project management module
  • Very good RFI, Submittal, CO, PCI and Subcontracts Logs
  • Can export most logs to a spreadsheet which can be useful, we like that a lot.
  • Payroll module is extremely complex to set up and use--not user friendly
  • Payable date entry is not efficient; we lose productivity by changing to CMiC from another software
  • Mobile applications are not fully developed
  • Progress billing module is not user friendly; hard to correct if mistakes are made
  • Presentation of change orders on progress billing is very poor
  • Cannot track gross margins on change orders properly or without extreme efforts
The security access setting is solid but hard to understand and not user friendly, which could be simplified. The payroll module is too complicated to use and not user friendly. CMiC Construction Platform has poor accrual of vacation pay and poor reporting on pay stubs. Software appears to be geared toward US-based companies, with less attention to Canadian companies when it comes to payroll setup. Has improved since we first launched the system but we had to fight for it.

CMiC is currently being used across our organization including accounting, project controls, and field management.
  • Invoice workflow.
  • Creating and tracking potential change items and change orders.
  • Labor forecasting and labor profit calculations.
  • RFIs, submittals, and submittal log.
  • User interface seems outdated, way too many options/unused areas.
  • Lack of photo management.
  • General speed of online platform is incredibly slow.
From my understanding, CMiC has helped to consolidate information all into one place for our accounting department. Creating and tracking changes through potential change items is nuanced, but once it is learned correctly it is effective. The invoice workflow portion is effective. However, it seems to be poorly suited for field management. The RFI and submittal tool is difficult to use and ineffective.

We use CMiC for our company's project management and accounting. Our entire organization from executives, accounting, and project teams all work together.
  • RFPs: entering RFPs from subcontracts is easy.
  • Field App: the current version of field app is not reliable and has issues.
  • Subcontracts: cannot override some fields to meet our company's needs.
  • Support: entering cases is difficult and the direct users cannot deal with support directly.
Tracking project activity: PCIs, budgets, costs, is easy to use and drills down into specifics. Looking forward to R12 and increased capacity.

CMiC is being used by the whole company— finances, fieldwork, and project management.
  • Manages everything in one system. This is nice so that we have once program instead of multiple.
  • Accuracy pulls costs in real time for forecasting budgets.
  • Has many functions and can be manipulated to get information we want.
  • This is not a user-friendly program. It take a lot of time to learn how to use the program it would be nice if it was a lot easier to pick up
  • Constantly having updates that create other issues in the functions that are working. it would be nice it that didn't happen or is support was easier to get a hold of.
  • So many clicks! you have to make like 1000+ clicks to get what you want.
  • I wish searching was easier instead of having to use the %% in the search.
  • I wish change orders were easier to post and un-post. Also, it would be nice if there was one way of doing them instead of 15+. This would make consistency across the company.
  1. CMiC has a lot of great features but it really isn’t user friendly. I spend a lot of time training and explaining how to do something to my fellow coworkers. I have learned from trial and error and I wish it was a program that anyone could pick up with ease. CMiC is not an easy program to learn.
  2. RA Nelson had to write our own manual on how to use CMiC. It seems a little weird that we paid all this money for CMiC and then have to turn around and create our own manual for it. (which has taken a lot of hours might I add)
  3. Random error message that doesn’t always lead to you being about to figure out what is going on. It would nice if the error message was like (missing XXX file) instead it rarely does that.
  4. A lot of times the updates fix one problem, then create 5 more other problems.
  5. I wish we had more support, it seems when I ask support for help I am given to someone with little knowledge and I have to wait a while before I get someone higher up to help.
  6. There are some features that I wished CMiC did but when I ask programming to add them they ask for more money to create it for me. These are items that would benefit the program, not just RA and I should have to pay for my suggestions to make the program better.
  7. Overall, CMiC is a powerful tool but I wish it was more user friendly and there where such long hard consequences for making mistakes within the system.

We use it across our entire company, both project management, field and most financials. Addressed holding all project-related data and cost in the same place as overhead, so siloed systems are avoided. CMiC provides strong controls.
  • Visibility across teams.
  • One login for lots of activities.
  • Strong controls; project and financials.
  • Progressive improvements.
  • Users input gets dedicated R&D dollars.
  • Easier customization.
  • Customization cost are HIGH.
  • User experience can be clunky.
Not ideal for small companies as it is not a cheap solution. To go live, expect a lot of time dedicated to testing and fees to train/customize to your business use. That being said, the software pretty much covers every base from HR to Drawing Management to Financials besides being a strong project management tool. Forays into mobile and collaboration features with external stakeholders are promising and may eliminate other external tech subscriptions.

It is used to organize the entire company. All departments use it and it helps track all of our projects. As a coordinator, we use it for scheduling, financial tracking, project process and POs, COs, etc.
  • Purchase orders, change orders, estimates, etc.
  • Organizes projects well.
  • It is very useful to have everything in one place.
  • Uploading files can be easier, a click and drag option would be useful.
I believe it is useful in every way. I've worked for companies that do not use these types of platforms and the process of running a project is so much slower and more complicated. It helps prevent mistakes and makes things quicker.

CMiC helps project teams to share the files and follow up on RFIs, change orders, and shop drawings in the same place.
  • Ease to export report in different formats.
  • Easy to analyze cost to complete forecasts.
  • Variety in the reports.
  • Lack of general overview project report compiling project information from different departments (Let's say total RFPs or number of outstanding punch list items, or projected cost-profit vs bid profit, etc.).
  • Lack of notification system.
  • Lack of auto-generated reports and emails.
  • Lack of speed on certain pages (Forecasting screen or large queries takes a while to load).
CMiC is well suited for contractors working for both large and small volume projects, particularly in the private sector. However, some of the detailed functions may overwhelm small contractors and or may be obsolete for general contractors working for public projects and using the owner's platform as project controls in addition to CMiC.

CMiC is a great tool for managing documents between your organization as well as other trade partners. It strives to be a technology that allows all information needed for a well-organized project to operate and function in one place. At our organization, we use it to control all functions from a document control aspect down to payment operations.
  • Accounts payable
  • Document control
  • All information in one place
  • Construction drawings management
  • Easier to change it to my company needs

It's a great platform to keep all documents in one place so that all members of the team can access it. With all the information in one place, it does a great job of collecting the information and organizing it for presentations and analytics between our organization and our clients.

It's being used company-wide. I think it's convenient for accounting to see exactly the same information that PMs see. Especially when trying to decide if a charge is accurate or not. Also, great when running reports to see what is available to be allocated and where.
  • Invoice inputting.
  • Creating jobs/seeing jobs created.
  • A/P invoice inputting.
  • Not sure. This is my first construction software.
I like that CMiC has a workable accounting function and that everyone uses the same platform. It's my first time working in the construction field. Also, it's the first time I don't have to know another program to do my job.

Across the whole organization - used by construction field/project managers and incorporated into the billing department as well. It incorporates budgeting tools/construction field inquiries (RFIs, documentation, drawings) as well as daily logs and information critical to the construction site. It also incorporates monetary issues and tracks the cause (field issues/RFIs).
  • Good budgeting/finance tools.
  • Incorporates RFIs/field reports.
  • Document (drawing) incorporation.
  • Scheduling/budgeting.
  • More user/friendly interface.
  • Selective export to excel.
  • Use with chrome.
It seems to work well as an overall solution to construction companies - payroll, hr, field and project teams. There are multiple modules that are effective tools for all users in the firm and a single solution for a variety of items. A drawback would be if there's incorporation from an outside owner - would be cumbersome for them.

It is being used across the whole organization. It helps with keeping things on record and to receive and send documents to different parties. It is also used to keep track of different projects in terms of both the Management and Accounting Departments.
  • Facilitate communication
  • Uniform template across whole organization
  • Store document
  • More linear way of how different things are related.
  • Better chance to undo "errors" like an undo button or something.
Good scenarios: Managing different projects at once, as it is easy to access different projects within CMIC.
Less appropriate: Not very user -riendly. Some site people have trouble adapting to the concept and therefore tend to avoid using CMIC if they are not used to the program or not very knowledgeable about how to use it.

CMiC is being used by everyone in our organization. It's used in accounting, on the field, and in the project delivery service department. It helps us collaborate with internal staff, and provides a place for us to store and manage all our files. It is also very helpful in project tracking and invoicing. The largest business problem it addresses is having one place to store and manage all files.
  • Information management
  • Invoicing
  • Reports
  • Interface/Display: Not very user friendly. Should reference programs like Bim360 to get a feel for a really easy to navigate, and good-looking display.
  • Lagging/Downloads: Not very efficient to use, doesn't make me want to upload documents to the system based on lagging and downloads times.
  • Platform integration: Why don't contacts sync up with my phone? Should have a feature to integrate better with currently used technologies. Would be cool to have storage folders on your desktop that are cloud-based to import and store files.
I think it's a good platform, but I feel that there are other programs doing document management better. I really was impressed with Bim360's document management software based on the compatibility with the programs we already use, as well as the interface was a lot cleaner and user-friendly. CMiC seems very outdated although it functions in a similar way.

We use CMIC for accounting and document control.
  • Shop drawing tracking
  • RFI tracking
  • Changes
  • Billing
  • User interface
  • Reporting
The shop drawings module works well and is easy to track. The import feature saves time when adding larger amounts of data into the system. One item I would change is to be able to bulk delete items. Right now, if an import is entered incorrectly it becomes time-consuming to delete everything.

Phase 1 was implemented for Field & PM users. Phase 2 (which we haven't finalized) is for Accounting and the rest of the employees. The hopes were that this software would streamline everything from opportunities to estimating, to active projects, and closeout. We wanted an ERP so everyone would be trained on the same software, using the same steps, and managers & ownership would have a high-level view of what was going on.
  • Providing one place for collab contacts: instead of each PM/Superintendent having their own lists; CMiC allows for a centralized database.
  • Change order screen: the lady that does accounting said that the change order screen is super easy to use and to run reports out of.
  • Daily journal: on the mobile app Daily Journals are super easy.
  • Submittal process is overly complicated; I can't get my PMs to use it.
  • Meeting minutes: again overly complicated.
  • Folder structure: It is painful that I can't pick and choose which folders get used on which project. This confuses the PMs, superintendents & collab users.
  • Mobile app: Doesn't consistently work. Freezes, doesn't log in, doesn't download stuff, when trying to unfreeze the software it deletes whatever wasn't saved. Doesn't work well on HotSpots
  • Estimating: this system does not handle estimating as we know it. It allows the PM to go out for additional pricing; not the initial estimating process
  • Billings are unbelievably difficult. This is one reason we haven't implemented phase 2.
  • Reports: most of the canned reports are quite bland. There's no way to manipulate the canned reports either.
  • Training is NOT easy on this system; even with how much I've trimmed down for Clients & internal employees. I have clients refusing to use this system.
I think this may be well suited for much larger companies that could invest in the costs to make the system much more custom. We are a small-medium size company and this is much more than what we needed.
