What is Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams combines video conferencing software with team collaboration tools. The communications platform allows MS Office users to conduct conference calls and share files via SharePoint, and join or initiate a group chat.

Microsoft Teams features three tiers of pricing. The first is a subscription-less, free option that offers the same features as the other two tiers but does not offer administration tools like analytics and access to on-premise servers, or support features like 24/7 phone and web support. The second and third tiers are based on the size of your business and its conferencing needs. Its “Office 365 Business Premium” option starts at $12.50 a month per user, with a required annual commitment, and its “Office 365 E3” option for enterprises starts at $20 a month per user, also with a required annual commitment.

Key Features
Meetings: Meet with teams of 10 or 10,000. Host audio, video, and web conferences with anyone inside or outside your organization or go big with live events.

Calling: Its Phone System feature enables PBX capabilities including call control in Office 365 and replaces on-premises PBX. Its calling features are customizable to fit your organization’s unique needs.

I am using Microsoft Teams as my daily communication tool outside of email. I work with people across many different departments, and it is much easier to chat quickly than to send 15 emails back and forth. I can also easily attach files or images and get those quickly to the right person, and it also ties in with Microsoft Office and Outlook which is useful. Right now only a select group of users are on Teams, but we are trying to transition everyone to it from our old chat software.
  • Easy to use and get started. Little to no learning curve for new users.
• Screen sharing and file sharing options.
  • Microsoft Office Plug-Ins and other Add-Ins for Salesforce, Jira, etc.
Cons
  • Difficult to use group chats or grouping contacts compared to Slack.
  • Better UI could be useful.
  • More integrations with other software would take it to the next level.
Teams is great for people you need to be talking to constantly, like a project manager or close co-worker who sits in a different department. It is not going to be used best as a simple chat app, although it does that well. It shines in all the integrations, the mobile app capabilities, and the price!

It is being used heavily in our department as well as across our entire company. We are replacing video conferencing via Blue Jeans and it is being used as a great alternative to Sharepoint for collaboration and file sharing.
  • Dynamic file and idea sharing option
  • Real-time collaboration
  • Video conferencing
Cons
  • Some easier to use functionality for first-time users.
  • A good tool to show how much can be done.
In any instance where a small part, a large part, or your entire team is offsite, Teams is a great option to be able to share and collaborate both in a web-based setting or via the mobile app.

A Great Solution for a more mobile and digital workplace

Rating: 9 out of 10

We use Microsoft Teams as our meeting and communications solution. It was implemented corporate-wide. The overall strategy that our company is going to, is to make work more mobile or portable without hindering productivity and work collaborations. Microsoft Teams has been a great help in achieving this goal. Regardless of time during the day, and wherever we are, we can quickly and effectively meet and discuss work-related matters through Microsoft Teams video conferencing or chat.
  • It is integrated with other Microsoft online services.
  • We can organize and make specific groupings, and within those groupings, you cannot just chat, but also share files and media.
  • We can collaborate on working on a file (ex. you can open an Excel Online file within MS Teams) and make changes as the team discussed the matter.
  • Microsoft Teams has greatly and effectively achieved our move to a mobile workplace.
Cons
  • The react button to a message could have another option other than "thumbs up."
  • The Video Conferencing can sometimes get picky, and needs a fast internet connection.
  • No group calendar, and it could have been great if there was.
  • It would have been great to integrate OneNote during video conferencing.
We had a time in the office wherein our team lead went overseas, and we had a business decision on a contract to make, and it required his comments before we could send it for approval to our director. Email and calling could have been a good way to relay the message to him, but we resorted to using MS Teams for a more efficient discussion through video conferencing, and at the same time we could share the file to him, as well as discuss and attach comments to the working file.

Our entire organization is on Microsoft Teams. We just upgraded from Skype for Business. We use it to communicate one-on-one internally, not so much with groups. Our support team and others in the organization use Teams to communicate externally with our customers and partners. Overall, Microsoft Teams is a significant improvement over Skype for Business. It has a lot more features that benefit us outside of just messaging and calling.
  • There are a lot of integrations. We also use Salesforce, and being able to integrate a Salesforce feed into a Teams message is awesome.
  • One-on-one messaging offers so many more features now than just chatting. Sharing files got easier, you can customize the chat rooms by adding tabs (either for other apps or a specific web page), plus there is actually a message history that works much better than Skype for Business.
  • The app itself is very user-friendly. Microsoft recently added a dark mode, which is great. Plus their mobile app makes Teams really convenient to access.
Cons
  • It's unclear how notifications work with the Windows notification center. Sometimes when I'm presenting a screen, I think my settings are such that notifications from Teams wouldn't pop up. But sometimes they do. More than likely user error, but I haven't figured out all the settings yet.
  • If you're messaging external users who are on an older version (Skype for Business or even Lync), not all features are enabled for messaging on Teams. For instance, I can't start a group chat with 2 other people who are using Skype for Business.
Microsoft Teams works well for:
- large organizations who need to manage employee communications internally.
- great for creating groups to put employees in (by department or something) and allowing them to communicate together/stay updated on things/share files.
- managing your Outlook schedule.
- calling other Teams users and having meetings/screen sharing.
Microsoft Teams is not (yet) well suited for:
- trying to message external users who aren't on Teams (it can be done, but not all features are available).

Whole organization using "Microsoft Teams" to communicate each other. From day starting time to ending time it needed. It's very helpful to all employees in Organization. • We can create groups in teams, all are very helpful .
  • If we need camera turn on in meetings also we can do, really helpful.
Cons
  • I didn't see any missing functionality till now.
  • It's very good app.
  • It's very useful to all employees in Organization.
  • Everyday starts with Microsoft Teams in Organization.
Every day starts with Microsoft Teams in our Organization. We can communicate easily through Microsoft Teams. We can arrange meetings, video calls through other employees. If we want to communicate any urgent matters also fastly we can send messages to our colleagues easily. So I recommend it to any other employees and to other organizations too without any second thought.
