What is Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams combines video conferencing software with team collaboration tools. The communications platform allows MS Office users to conduct conference calls and share files via SharePoint, and join or initiate a group chat.

Microsoft Teams features three tiers of pricing. The first is a subscription-less, free option that offers the same features as the other two tiers but does not offer administration tools like analytics and access to on-premise servers, or support features like 24/7 phone and web support. The second and third tiers are based on the size of your business and its conferencing needs. Its “Office 365 Business Premium” option starts at $12.50 a month per user, with a required annual commitment, and its “Office 365 E3” option for enterprises starts at $20 a month per user, also with a required annual commitment.

Key Features
Meetings: Meet with teams of 10 or 10,000. Host audio, video, and web conferences with anyone inside or outside your organization or go big with live events.

Calling: Its Phone System feature enables PBX capabilities including call control in Office 365 and replaces on-premises PBX. Its calling features are customizable to fit your organization’s unique needs.

Microsoft Teams has become the main communication channel in our team.<br>It offers many advantages to the old and sometimes bulky classic emails.<br>The integration with other Microsoft Apps is good (not great) and offers many possibilities to make Teams a central hub for information exchange.<br>But the new pest after 'Reply to All' mails are new Team Channels popping up with every Project or Task. This can cet very confusing and hard to search for a specific bit of information or document buried deep in some random subchannel in some subfolder.
  • removes the pain from scrolling through endless long mail threads with mail signatures taking up most of the screen space
  • quick way to reach out to colleagues via message or voice call
  • integration with landline phone
  • share documents with certain colleagues or external partners
  • sometimes choses the wrong microphone (internal instead of headset) resulting in bad audibility
  • new version 2 lacks some features from old version
  • often it doesn't ring in the mobile app
It is good, but for me the main reason to use it is the integration with M365 - which we already have.

In my experience, the application doesn't work at times. I think improvements are definitely needed. I actually found Skype much more user friendly and efficient when I used it 10 years ago.
In my experience, there are times that it just doesn't work.
  • On a desktop or laptop computer I think it does work quite well but, in my experience, on mobiles it's a different story
  • On my two mobile devices it just doesn't work. But the company is committed to the use of Microsoft Teams at the moment.
  • Due to employee complaints we may move to another app.
  • Hardware that was installed to support Microsoft Teams meetings in our meeting rooms do not work at all. I think it's horrendous.
  • In my opinion, if people out there willing to spend money on it, I would be very careful and I would propose a proper assessment to be done prior to making an agreement.
I provided my answers earlier. I would definitely not recommend this app to any professional.

We use Teams on a daily-basis for a wide variety of meetings: internal and external. Sometimes in group, sometimes 1-1 (with only two participants). The Teams chat and the screen sharing features are almost always used. People turn their cameras on most of the time, and mute themselves when not speaking. Some participants join from their mobile device if they are not at the office or at home at the time of the call.
  • Screen-sharing capability
  • Team chat
  • Force-call attendees who are late to the call
  • The polls functionality is hard to find
  • Presenting a document and seeing people's faces is not easy
  • Muting a participant requires multiple clicks
I find Microsoft Teams really well suited for remote work. I work with web developers that are based abroad and Teams is our primary tool for meetings, file sharing and chats. I also use the 'Channels' feature to have discussions and track progress on particular projects and topics. Teams is however less appropriate for communicating and collaborating with people outside of your organisation as sometimes it is difficult to find their contact, and it can happen that their organisation does not allow communications (e.g. file sharing) from external senders.

  • Integration of AI for writing suggestions
  • Facility of voice message like WhatsApp

This is an excellent tool for mid or large-size organizations. The execution is smooth & application is lightweight.
A very good fit for any organization where remote working culture is promoted.

I really don't see any situation where Teams is not appropriate

Microsoft team we use for communicating with all the users in the organization for file sharing, Crated groups BU-wise help a lot of time to collaborate and communicate with all the teams. We use town hall meetings for the entire organization. We use it for daily Candence calls even we schedule calls with customers to resolve there issues.
  • we use channel-wise teams like production channel, quality channel, UAT channel
  • We use video conference for team awards and celebrations
  • we schedule the calendar for the whole month for planning the activites
  • In mobile it is lagging they have to improve in mobile function working area
  • When we are using it for town hall meetings it will be hang because of huge audience
  • Delay in Notification need to improve
It is very useful in working area where we can communicate, share files, build teams, channels, schedule meetings, award functions, planning for the whole month using calendar, Integration with other apps like jira.

If we have less users it is not much effectively used so it is good for larger users to manage the work in the any organization .

We use Microsoft Teams daily in our company for all the communication needs: chat with colleagues in a private chat, make audio/video calls, host online meetings, and attend and host virtual conferences.
Microsoft Teams definitely improved collaboration and team work in our company.
It's great tool for personal and business needs!
  • Team work simplification
  • Integrated with other Microsoft products
  • Instant Chats
  • Video Calls can be better
  • Confusing File Structure
  • Improve Search. There's no possibility to go to the original message, it just shows you all found messages in one window
Well suited for all communication needs:
  • chat with colleagues in a private chat
  • make audio/video calls
  • host online meetings
  • attend and host virtual conferences
Less appropriate for searching: You won't see the original chat thread when you search for a message which was posted long time ago. It will just show you the message text and the date it was posted.

Microsoft Teams is a nice collaboration tool, we use in our organization as the main collaboration tool, we use it for chatting, meetings, inbound and outbound calls. The tool helped us move away from using soft phones that constantly cause issues with phone calls and now we have integrated our own phone number and we can receive and do calls. This enabled us to low cost by removing the need of 2 different software and cost of license per agent/user.
  • Setting up meetings and record them
  • Integrates natively with Outlook and one drive/Sharepoint
  • Create teams channels for specific tasks/projects and the conversation will be backed up along with files.
  • When you download files, the application can lag and even crash, this portion needs to be improved.
  • One to one calls cant be recorder unless you set up a meeting.
  • slowness when opening a file in the app, like a excell sheet.
  • Add meeting reminders when the meeting is about to start similar to Outlook.
Microsoft teams is well suited for enterprise chatting/collaboration tool, it goes very well for almost any company, for Tech companies it definitely fill the bill, it integrates to sharepoint/Outlook and this integration provides a very efficient environment. You can be on a MicrosoftTeams channel related to a project that at the same time is integrated to Sharepoint instance and we can access live the files we require and modify them if needed. It's perfect for call and video recording, you can set up a meeting in a matter of seconds because it helps us to add the invitee into the meeting.

We use Teams for daily communications. Without Teams, we would be left without a means of communicating our ideas and concerns.
  • Provide a means for chatting with other members of our team
  • Schedule teams meetings without need for a 3rd party app
  • Create teams groups to disseminate information
  • Teams meetings frequently drop calls and needs to be re-dialed.
  • Searching for words in Teams is not the best.
Teams is a good Microsoft product that allows for daily communication to team members. It's well suited for use in small teams. Another app might be more appropriated for very large teams that require a more dedicated app for meetings.

We use Teams to facilitate online meetings which are either on-one-one or with teams/squads.
  • Great user experience
  • Chat functionality embedded within each meeting
  • Well sync'd with Outlook
  • Can crash every now and then
  • Camera freezes - need to fix this defect which seems quite regular
  • Mobile app video call experience is lacking
Well suited - great tool to use for meetings, if you want to have a dedicated working chat group to communicate from
Not well suited - if using outside of work and users don't have the app downloaded on their machine

As a contractors, we use Microsoft Teams in different ways. The first is with our clients, usually non-profit organizations that work with multi-generational volunteers. Integrating non-company people into the Team universe is not the most user-friendly solution. There are often difficulties in accessing documents and navigating through the infrastructure of the interface. It therefore requires each time to educate the volunteers on how to use the platform. We also use the Microsoft Teams of our customers, who have provided us with email addresses from their organizations specifically for this purpose. We end up with conflicts between Teams, OneNote and Office 365 if we are not on the same user account for each of the software. In short, the tool is interesting but its protections against external access as well as the difficulty for users with multiple MS 365 accounts are a hindrance in our context.
  • One meeting place for teamworking
  • Instant messaging between members of a team
  • Intégration with OneNote
  • Intégration with ToDo
  • Conflict with the choice of input when using headphones with an integrated microphone and an independent microphone, a problem that does not exist on zoom.
  • Changing from one access to another for people with multiple accesses to Microsoft Office 365
  • Access to the Teams universe for people outside the company who must have the same levels of access (subcontractor, volunteers in the case of non-profit organizations).
Positive: The virtual workspace created for a work team within the same company, for the resemblance of information and communications in one place.Negative: The access for members of a non-profit organization who have external emails from the host but need the same access as an internal person since their volunteer work is part of the very core of the federation.

Scope is pretty broad with Microsoft Teams, doesn’t seem to be any problems in general. Microsoft Teams allows us to immediately get in touch and share meetings, documents, tasks, and information quickly and efficiently. I use Microsoft Teams daily and it certainly alleviates certain times when a quick connect can resolve a lengthy phone call.
  • Connect people immediately
  • Has both video & audio functionality
  • Intertwined with Outlook
  • Restarts are almost expected
  • Not too glitchy
  • Honestly excellent product overall
Not too many bugs or glitches that need fixing. Always works well, and almost no issues.

Microsoft Teams has replaced our previous document repository tool and has also replaced Skype as our new communication within teams members. It has a good structure to it (provided it is thought out), ease in use and good UI. There is also the ability to search within Microsoft Teams and that makes it easy to search for files/folders and communication history. It also integrates well with other plugins such as Microsoft power apps, Miro etc. so that has been a great help in managing work and comms.
  • provides ability to organise folders and files (good front end to SharePoint)
  • provides great use of communication between team members and external parties
  • provides great integration with other apps such as Microsoft power platform, Miro etc.
  • The search function could be made better- especially for finding things within chats
  • It is a little annoying going to previous pages within Microsoft Teams, at times i feel like it would be nice to open things in a new windows
  • sometimes Microsoft Team crashes - but very rarely and that can be a pain
Scenarios where MicrosoftTeams is well suited include: - internal and customer collaboration - integrations with other apps (Microsoft power platform work really well with this tool) - file/folder management (front end of SharePoint) Scenarios where Microsoft Teams is not well suited - I can't really think of anyplace where it might not be well suited.

Microsoft Teams is used for conducting online meetings regularly and helps us to connect with each other virtually. It is used across the whole organisation. Video conferencing becomes easier and with a variety of tools and options that come with Microsoft Teams, the group discussions feel just like an in-person conference.
  • It is very simple to use and setup.
  • Lot of options available for the organisers like Breakout rooms etc.
  • It has a user friendly interface.
  • The feature of notifications in the mobile application could be improved. Sometimes notifications of different teams are not visible and are only visible when the application is opened.
  • It uses lots of computational resources while running and thus, slows down the system sometimes.
  • It allows a few channels per team. The number of channels could be increased for better productivity.
Microsoft Teams is ideal for organizations where employees regularly collaborate by sharing files, working on the same documents, updating the progress, etc. This is because different file formats are supported for online editing and collaboration with the help of Microsoft Teams. Additionally, for every file which is shared among the team members, emails are not sent again and again which helps in easily managing and organizing files. It is less appropriate where the team members have to instantly reply to an urgent task as sometimes the notifications are not sent properly which may lead to a delay in the work.

MS Teams were able to address our connection with our colleagues who are not able to use our current platform since it is a competitor of the client they are supporting. Being in governance, I need to be able to reach everyone where ever they are located so this is the best option I have.
  • It does not consume to much bandwidth based on number of participants
  • It has easy navigation for use
  • It can work on mobile
  • Provide more background choices during meetings
  • Have an easy access button for help options
  • Provide description on the icons available on the interface
It is well suited if your organization is using the MS platform (email is Outlook). The platform is not for new users (needs to be highly computer literate).

I use Microsoft Teams as my workplace communication tool in a large healthcare organization. I can communicate quickly and effectively with my supervisor and fellow colleagues about confidential customer data and know it is secure. It is easy to connect with colleagues working at branches in different Australian states. Professional development webinars, held live across multiple Australian states at regular times, are easily supported on this platform with over 30-40+ users watching a single stream at one time. Integrates well with Microsoft Outlook which is used concurrently at work.
  • Real-time updated Microsoft Teams status of other users (i.e. immediate status changes of 'online', 'away', and 'busy' amongst all healthcare organization computers).
  • Integration with Microsoft Outlook is excellent - workplace meeting invitations accepted on Outlook will synchronize with Microsoft Teams automatically and allow easy viewing (e.g. accepted Outlook invite to video teaching session will be integrated into Microsoft Teams calendar).
  • Aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly interface - easy to initiate workplace 'chats' with staff present on a particular day.
  • Integrating a crop tool to edit screenshots sent over Microsoft Teams would be useful! Currently have to use the Paint app first.
  • Having a wider range of GIFs and emoticons available for use on the platform.
  • Intermittent problems with connectivity soon after password changes for 2-3 days. Requires manual login however Microsoft Teams soon synchronizes with the new password.
Microsoft Teams is useful for workplace communication in my healthcare organization. I need to be able to communicate with my boss about clinical imaging and can easily share chest x-ray images via the screenshot function with her. Other user interfaces would have difficulty processing these images. Given data within healthcare is usually confidential, Microsoft Teams is excellent for allowing me to communicate data with colleagues whilst maintaining confidentiality (compared to using private text messaging, Whatsapp).

We are hybrid model. Each one of us can schedule meetings, calling and video conferencing each other at no cost to us. When we are in office, Microsoft Teams are instant messaging system. We use it to evaluate our project and high five to those who have done a great job. It makes us feel appreciated. What's more, we are a team and that feels good. It saves our time. We become more transparent to each other. We are staying connected more than ever.
  • casual chat
  • team meetings
  • quick evaluation and appraisal
  • share information and planning projects
  • More choice of background
  • More emoji's
  • More video clips to show how to use it beyond a team collaboration tool
When teams are scattered across the country, Microsoft Teams by itself means collaboration and team work. Also the team space is a great area that each department can have their own issues discussed and shared. However, it may not be an effective tool when Internet connection is not stable. Perhaps in the urban areas would be best while in the rural areas, e.g. the west and prairies..

At my company, we use Teams primarily to instant message one another across the entire organization. If you need a quick answer it is preferable to email. We also use it however to store and share documents. It is also great at taking and organizing notes. It also has task board functionality.
  • Integrates with Outlook and SharePoint
  • Instant messaging
  • Stores documents and notes
  • Hard to tell if someone is actually "away"
  • Missing some Lync functionality
  • Hard to find in SharePoint where docs are kept
Great instant messaging tool. It does a lot more than that too. You can call, screenshare, and store documents in a linked SharePoint site. Integration with Outlook means you can see who's available and who may be out of office before sending them an email. I like having the mobile app on my phone to stay connected.

We implemented Microsoft Teams a few years ago and starting adopting it as a replacement for Microsoft Skype for Business.
In the beginning adoption was slow and it was hard to get our staff and clients to move over.
However when the Covid Pandemic started we kept on sending out client/user comms about the features of Microsoft Teams.
We suddenly saw major adoption of Microsoft Teams and I can say this is one of the best collaboration and unified communication tools out there.
We use the Teams Channels for our Team collaboration and work. Sharing documents with users that need to work on it at the same time really works well. I have seen over 400 users work on a single document at the same time and we had no issues.

The Teams meetings work really well, Virtual Backgrounds are excellent, and is a major improvement compared to Skype for Business.
Finally, the multiple integration options with other apps, or the online web access functions are really great features. You are able to do everything in the Teams web app you can do in the desktop app.
  • Great collaboration tools and experience
  • Really good online meeting and meeting collaboration experience and tools
  • The Teams web function works really well and I sometimes prefer it over the desktop app
  • The additional add-ins available makes it truly great
  • The chat functions in Teams need some refinement and should give user options to move the Chat function to a more traditional IM style window as well. I know there was movement into the direction but I still thing improvement would be needed.
The overall collaboration between team members, teams, and even when teams are located all across the Global is a really great factor for team productivity.
The online meetings are really great and works really well with live captioning, etc.
The Teams online web version works just as great as the desktop clients.
