Overall Satisfaction with Avalara AvaTax

We use Avalara on our website to quote tax and our ERP to collect taxes. We also use Avalara's tax return services and exemption certificate management.
  • Accurate and specific tax calculations
  • Ease of submitting returns
  • Lack of ERP support. We ran into challenges with the way Avalara interacted with a credit card software we upgraded too and we struggled to get the support we needed from Avalara on this issue.
  • The pricing structure is confusing and makes it hard for users to control costs.
  • We started using Avalara as soon as we started selling direct. I cannot imagine going direct without a sales tax solution.
Implementation was as easy as can be expected. We had some challenges out of the gate but nothing I wouldn't expect for an implementation of this magnitude.
  • We are integrated with Magento and our ERP (Microsoft NAV)
Great online resources. AvaTax module is easy to understand and onboard/train new users.
We use managed returns which has been incredibily beneficial. We also use the exemption certificate management module but I'm not overly impressed with this - main complaint is inability to link one cert with multiple states.
Overall it is pretty seamless to use - I was very happy until the lack of support we rec'd with our cc software upgrade. We had to write substantial amounts of custom code to work around the issue.
