BlackLine Account Reconciliations Rock!
Overall Satisfaction with BlackLine
We are a global telecommunications company. We have over 200 entities, and I have implemented account reconciliations in about 50 of these entities. Prior to BlackLine, we had zero visibility in some entities as to whether they were even doing account reconciliations. And there was no evidence of reviews, no centralized place to store them, and no standards or internal controls. It was all done in Excel totally manually.
Pros
- Maintain internal control so a preparer of a reconciliation cannot approve their own
- Maintains history of a reconciliation, providing the "full story" of the account
- Accessibility of BlackLine systems 24/7--I work in several time zones and we can all be on the same page
Cons
- Creation of customized reports is still a bit confusing
- Creation of dashboards is also still a bit confusing
- Reduction of audit fees due to auditors having full visibility of global entities
- Reduction of hours preparing reconciliations as the reconciliations roll forward from one month to the next
- Auto-certification feature lets the accounting team focus on the more complex accounts
