Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Umbrella

We primarily use Cisco Umbrella for policy based web content filtering and secure browsing, as a direct replacement for the retired Cloud Web Security. We use the DNS security and SIG to meet our needs.

  • There was a significant teething period for us as the product was not enterprise-ready. This has been addressed and it is now a great product.

It is well suited to pretty much any size environment. It does what it says on the box.

Resilience and Reliability

Being cloud based there is a high level of resilience built into the solution.
Recognize the fact that no organisation is safe and no solution is perfect.
It is fit for purpose.
At the time we were forced to move from Cloud Web Security to Cisco Umbrella, Cisco Umbrella was far from being a direct replacement. It was frustrating and difficult to migrate due to the lack of functionality. This has since been addressed, however we now have legacy rulesets that were built as bandaids that cannot be removed. Hopefully the migration to Secure Access will address this.
It hasn't been perfect, but pretty close to it. Losing access to the management console on a semi-regular basis can be frustrating.
Read the documentation and hope that you get a good pre-sales engineer that will help you with the design for your environment.
  • Implementing an enterprise policy set in a product that did not support it at the time. Creativity was essential.

Cisco Umbrella Support

Cisco Umbrella support is a different entity from TAC. It feels like a completely separate entity.
