Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Exchange

We use Microsoft Exchange in our organization to manage and send outbound emails from our on-premise servers. We have a hybrid environment and it's not always practical for mail to be sent from non-Microsoft servers through M365 due to limitations of the cloud. Using Exchange allows us to granularly apply options and specific parameters that M365 doesn't permit.
  • SMTP is reliable
  • Ease of use
  • Redundancy, reliability
  • Logging
  • Updates and security can be improved
  • Migration can be difficult
  • Backup and recovery can be difficult
  • Ease of use
  • Compatability
  • Reliability
  • Positive - reliable and has lots of support
  • Positive - familiarity with most IT professionals
  • Negative - when it fails, it fails hard and is time consuming
Most IT professionals understand Microsoft Exchange... getting a Linux expert or Google expert can be more challenging. Choosing Microsoft Exchange meant having access to a vast array of talent that understood the system if something went wrong, versus having to learn another system and re-inventing the wheel. Each system has its pros and cons depending on your needs, so it's difficult to "stack them".

Do you think Microsoft Exchange delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Microsoft Exchange's feature set?

Yes

Did Microsoft Exchange live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Microsoft Exchange go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Microsoft Exchange again?

Yes

Microsoft Exchange is a staunch standard in the field, and there are very few scenarios where it is less than ideal. Being that Microsoft can often be late on a zero-day response, high-risk environments may wish to consider a higher security platform or at least bolstering security with a product such as Barracuda or Avanan.
