Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Exchange
At previous employers, I also used Microsoft Exchange, and it has always performed admirably and provided solid, dependable email access. We prefer on-premise to hosted Exchange because it gives us complete control over both the architecture of our Exchange environment and the Exchange servers themselves. VMWare ESXi is also used to virtualize all of our Exchange servers. Microsoft Exchange is simply the best email solution available, and the on-premise version of that product is the best.
- User management is simple. Creating, deleting, and moving mailboxes and distribution lists is simple.
- The Active Directory integration is excellent. Once again, this is the best of the best.
- Mobile device integration is possible. Integration with Microsoft Outlook is quick, easy, and effective.
- Troubleshooting problems can be difficult. Even for seasoned Exchange Admins, some of the issues that arise are not particularly intuitive.
- Exchange cost is costly, both in terms of hardware and, more importantly, in terms of software.
- It's not something you want a novice to set up or manage. You'll need administrators who are familiar with Microsoft Exchange.
- I like the Calendar integration because it allows me to schedule appointments and create WebEx meetings all in one place. It makes life a lot easier.
- I like being able to search through past and current emails and find what I'm looking for quickly.
- I like how it integrates with a variety of business applications, such as Salesforce. Ensures a smooth workflow.
- Email management is extremely powerful. It's not difficult to add new mailboxes, DLs, or even Exchange servers. It allows us to expand our environment as needed without having to endure painfully long outages.
- Availability is high. It's not easy, but it gets the job done. The HA Exchange setups are top-of-the-line.
- It has given us the ability to send an email that is predictable, dependable, and robust. Email cannot go down, and because of the way our system is set up, we have never had a major outage.
Office 365 is pure ease. You get excellent compatibility with the entire Microsoft Office suite, as well as affordable access to Microsoft Office applications. All of this is supported by Microsoft's extremely dependable cloud. It's a great option for small businesses that don't have the resources or budget to maintain an on-premise Microsoft Exchange installation.
