Overall Satisfaction with Oracle BI Foundation Suite

I am a service provider and work with multiple organizations, of all verticals, implementing Oracle BI Foundation Suite. I have seen this implemented across departments of organizations. This software will address lots of verticals but is famous for - Financial Reporting, Supply Chain and Management, and Student Analytics. This software is so wonderful that organizations who prefer D3JS graphs can call them right into their Oracle BI Foundation Suite. This will open the users to endless open source graphs - D3JS.
  • Oracle BI Foundation Suite is mostly a file system driven software. This cuts down the cost of DBA or databases and is easy to maintain. All the Repository and Catalog are stored on the file system. They can be easily copied over for migration.
  • Oracle BI Foundation Suite is very well integrated with Oracle Fusion Middleware. Oracle ERP is the leading ERP in the market and no other product can integrate so well with Oracle ERP than OBIA, be it JDE, PSFT, or EBS. OBIA cuts down more than 30% in costs while implementing Business Intelligence on an Oracle ERP.
  • Oracle BI Foundation Suite also integrates well with a majority of third party softwares for security (LDAP), SSO and SSL.
  • Though Oracle BI Foundation Suite became a part of FMW, administration should be still done at the local files. I like to manage all of the parameters in configuration files moved to Enterprise Manager. So, it will be easy to manage when we have a cluster instead of editing each file on each server.
  • It would be a great feature if we had a dedicated URL for monitoring. We can do that in Enterprise Manager but have to check for each component performance individually.
  • There are some glitches with the Administration Tool while working online. Oracle doesn't have a checkout / check-in functionality that lets multiple users to work on the online repository at the same time. They developed MUDE but that is not a real solution for most of organizations.
The major advantage of Oracle BI Foundation Suite compared to other products is that it has the best integrity with the Oracle suite of products. We worked on the projects where organizations want to scrap out Business Objects to migrate to Oracle BI Foundation. I know Business Objects is excellent in the functionality but it requires more administration work and more server space compared to Oracle BI Foundation Suite. Also, Business Objects can't provide an end-to-end solution (ETL & Reporting) on an Oracle ERP.
Oracle BI Foundation Suite is well suited for most scenarios. Organizations just have to choose the right product for implementation. We have seen organizations using Business Intelligence for transactional reporting purposes - which is wrong and kills the actual purpose. There is a Transactional Reporting module of Oracle BI Foundation Suite which serves that need.
