Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Database

We used Oracle EBS as our ERP software. The underlying database is Oracle. Apart from Oracle EBS we also have other legacy ERP systems that use Oracle Database as the underlying database. Oracle database is used across the whole organization.
  • Oracle DB can handle large amounts of data without any issues. For example, Salesforce processes billions of records every hour in the cloud. Their underlying database is Oracle.
  • Oracle DB provides industrial-strength support for online backup and recovery.
  • Another advantage of Oracle DB is its reliability. Oracle DB delivers excellent performance when challenged with demanding tasks. The ACID test, which is an important tool used to ensure the integrity of data stored, was easily passed by the Oracle database.
  • Oracle database is very expensive. It can cost 9-10x as much as Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Oracle database is an extremely complex engine. Expert knowledge is required to design a database and architecture.
  • You need an expert to maintain an Oracle Database. Day to day maintenance itself require a skilled resource.
  • We primarily use an Oracle Database with our ERP software. 65% of our business runs on Oracle EBS.
  • We also use Oracle Database for the data warehouse. It's extremely useful for reporting in OBIEE.
  • Overall, the return on investment is pretty good. It's really hard to point out the ROI on Oracle Database specifically. Most often it comes in a package with either the ERP software or reporting/data warehouse software.
There are a lot of databases in the market like MongoDB, SQL Server etc. It all comes down to the business requirement. MongoDB and SQL Server are good for small scale applications. Whereas Oracle DB is an industry leader in enterprise applications.
Oracle database is well suited for large corporations who have large amounts of data that need to be processed.
