Overall Satisfaction with Paycom

Paycom was being used by HR, Managers and our employees. HR used it to track time off balances, maintain employee information, salaries, bonuses, benefits and pay our US employees. Managers used the system to approve time-off requests, track performance appraisals and request employee changes. The employees used it to obtain their paystubs, request time off, performance appraisals, update their addresses and direct deposit information.
  • Reporting - Once you understood how to run the reports and where to find the information you wanted to report on. It was a decent feature.
  • Payroll - Easy to manage
  • Customer Service - The Paycom "Specialist" were not knowledgeable on the system. They could never provide an easy solution and would have to get back to you with an answer. You would constantly to follow up with them to get an answer otherwise they would just kind of forget about it. The solutions they did provide would never actually solve the problem. They only ever provided ways to work around the system to try and get it to do what you needed because the feature was never that great to begin with.
  • Time Off - Our employees really despised using the system to track and report their time-off. The balances were only available in hours not days. There wasn't one location where the employee could see their carry over days, total awarded for the year, what they taken, requested and their remaining balances. They would need to go to two different sections in the system to figure this all out. The balances were never accurate either. This was because the whole system was based off the payroll and not in real time. We would constantly have to remind our managers and employees before the payroll is being ran to make sure the request is entered, approved or removed by a particular date. If not, it wouldn't pull through the payroll therefore causing balances to be incorrect. HR would need to manually go through and update the employees balances to correct time-off that was not captured through the payroll. This is a lot of work especially for a company that has 200+ employees. I don't feel this system was made to support larger companies. It also couldn't support our accrual policy or anniversary policies (i.e. an employee receiving an additional 5 days on their 3 year anniversary). I had to track this in a separate spreadsheet and then go in and manually adjust it for the employees in the system.
  • Performance Appraisals - Very vanilla. Not every company uses a weighting system and that is how it was basically designed to be used. The weighting would only allow you to provide numbers when we use letters. You could only customize it based off the options that were available in the system. We basically could only use their custom question boxes to create an appraisal that somewhat met our needs. After the employee completed their review and submitted it there was no way for them to go back and acknowledge the review after their managers answer were added and they had their one to one meeting. HR would have to go back in and undo the finalized submission so they could go back in electronically sign and date it again and then submit it again. Again, another work around to try and get the system to do what we needed.
  • We are a global company and the system was sold to us as being global. However, it turned out to not be global. We had to create custom fields for all of our employees in order to track their information accurately in the system. The system did not support the different currencies. We had to enter the salaries and bonuses in two different locations for our US based employees and EMEA employees. It also did not support EMEA addresses therefore we had to create custom text fields. It made reporting and tracking difficult because we were pulling information from multiple sources rather then just one location.
  • The system was more expensive then the one we have now and Paycom had less functionality. Paycom required a lot of manual work so it actually cost us more money to use the system then not having one at all.
On a scale from 1- 10 compared to ADP and UltiPro, Paycom comes in at 3. I wasn't involved in the selection process, however, I believe the main reason we purchased Paycom was because they sold it as a Global system and it turned out to be anything but that.
I think Paycom is only suited for smaller companies. It doesn't seem like it has the capability to support larger companies and definitely does not support companies globally. You have to be willing to adjust your policies and procedures if you want Paycom to work for you because it doesn't have the functionality to support a larger company as other HR systems do.
