Overall Satisfaction with Paylocity

I work at a nonprofit organization with close to 300 employees. We utilize Paylocity to track timecards as well as leave balances. I am a tertiary user myself and work closely with the Payroll staff.

  • Negative: frequent lost time spent on phone explaining the complexities and unique aspects of California labor laws to Paylocity customer support
Paylocity has many automation features that certainly save HR and Payroll time when they are working properly. Video trainings, etc. help to introduce new features to employees who utilize Paylocity beyond clocking in and out. Overall, we've explored other software options over the years, but Paylocity has been the best option for us.
The ability for staff to utilize Paylocity's different features without much training seems to have freed up supervisors and HR/Payroll to focus on other tasks. The data held within Paylocity is transparent and makes it easy for users to track their time and leave balances + their HR history (performance reviews, title/salary changes, etc.).
Overall, Paylocity stacks up well to competitors as it has many capabilities, is operating properly most of the time, and has been in use for years (allowing for time to build custom reports, etc. for our company). Paylocity does seem like it would work best in a state with less complex labor laws than California. Additional support staff who are trained in specific states would be helpful.

Yes

Having used similar software previously, Paylocity is the best option for our agency at this time. With that being said, there's room for improvement, particularly when it comes to customer service and specifically, labor law knowledge/built in controls for California. Paylocity is well suited for use by Payroll and HR teams as this software really integrates both. Certain payroll calculations may have to be completed in an outside system such as Excel.
