Our Proofpoint deployment is being used as a relay and DLP solution for external communications with our customers.

Pros and Cons

Provides firewall rules which can be leveraged to permit disallow or rewrite headers based on the intended recipient.
Leverage firewall rules to route mail through DLP for PII or sensitive information.
Secure endpoint for email generation/decryption and storage.

DLP rules can be a bit cumbersome to use beyond the default modules.
DKIM initiation can be difficult to validate.
Support is not straightforward for troubleshooting.

Return on Investment

Positive impact is that it gives an organization a source of truth for communications.
Easy to troubleshoot email deliverability issues with debug basics on smart search.
No clear backend configuration without support.
