Overall Satisfaction with Prophix

Prophix is being used by two main groups:
1) Finance department, for automated consolidations and financial reports
2) Capital project managers, for budgeting and variance reporting
  • Built on Microsoft SQL Server stack, which is ideal for our org as our other systems are based on the same and we can set up highly customized integrations using familiar technology.
  • Robust framework for Detailed Planning of HR, CAPEX, etc. plus ability to define workflows to support custom business processes in these areas.
  • In general, pace of innovation and development is somewhat slower than what I have come to expect from leading software companies. I have not seen a truly "new" idea or feature introduced in the 5 years I have been a customer, although I have no complaints about the functionality it does support.
  • Streamlined budgeting and planning
  • Streamlined consolidated financial reporting
We opted not to use many of the out-of-the-box integration methods included in Prophix, simply because it is built on familiar technology (Microsoft SQL/SSAS) which made it trivial for our developers were able to roll custom integrations to our very specific requirements.
The ability to deploy on-prem is important as our business systems are also on-prem. This was relevant to our vendor selection process.
Support is responsive and knowledgeable. I have often had support cases get escalated directly to a member of the dev team while on the call, in order to help them understand the issue fully.
Prophix had the feature set we wanted, at the most competitive price, and could be deployed on-prem.
Prophix is ideal for organizations that want to formalize their processes around consolidated reporting, planning and/or forecasting.

Using Prophix

Although we do use the workflow capability to great effect, we have not used the built-in collaboration such as commenting very much, mainly because it is difficult to drive adoption of another non-integrated communication channel. Most users simply prefer email.
We have benefited from the workflow capabilities in that it has become the driver for our monthly reporting and budgeting cycle. This works very well for us.
10 - Finance department, capex budget planning, report development, and cost center management
2 - In our case it is SQL Server administration, and SQL Server full BI stack development skills (SQL, SSAS, SSIS, SSRS)
