Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise to maintain the General Ledger for four companies. These firms are limited in size and hence there is little to no financial evaluation. The firms are mostly tax shelters.

Pros and Cons

Relatively easy to use
Easy to set up new companies

QB is not oriented enough towards accountants
Sometimes challenging to perform accounting functions, e.g., review prior bank reconciliations, find journal entries, debits and credits are not self evident.

Return on Investment

It is okay. Nothing significant to write about. Just somewhat difficult if you have journal entries to find and a reconciliation (bank or otherwise) to perform/

Implementation

QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise is reasonably easy to set up and use.

Alternatives Considered

Xero

Xero is too basic and not a very good general ledger system. I found Peachtree (Sage 50) to be very good. Reconciliations and look ups were more logical because it is more of an accounting document.

QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise is for the non-accounting types. Just a simple General Ledger system that is fairly easy to use. If you truly want an accounting system, this is not it.
