Overall Satisfaction with Revit

Revit is used throughout our entire company. We have our headquarters in Los Angeles with a branches in Amsterdam & Manila. Using Revit to complete our design projects gives us an advantage over other Architectural firms that currently cannot offer this service.
  • When Revit is used each component is drawn with building information that can be collected later to provide a bill of materials specifically in a schedule. This way we know exactly what is required to build the project.
  • Revit practically draws everything in 3d. So in addition to getting a 2 dimensional drawing we're also able to show our clients the 3 dimensional model.
  • We can use Revit across our 3 offices by storing the project file on-line in the cloud. This way our team in Los Angeles can work on the same project at the same time as our staff in Amsterdam & Manila.
  • Revit is a very complex application with lots features. Autodesk the makers of Revit should simplify these tools to make it easier for the end user to learn & apply.
  • Revit is missing some key functionality in the area of being able to duplicate drawings on the sheet level. Though there are macros offered by third parties, this should be really built-in to the product.
  • Revit does not support the very popular PDF format. So currently there is no option to attach or link a PDF file into Revit.
  • Though implementation of Revit is usually front heavy which means a lot of effort is put in at the front end of the project, the return of investment towards the remainder of the project is really good. All the effort in decisions made at the beginning of the project pays off with Revit incorporating all the building information in the model so the team can glean from this throughout the life of the project is a major plus.
  • A major negative is the many false assumptions that comes with using Revit on a project. Just like any other computer application, Revit is only a tool. It's only as good as the operators who implement this tool. Revit is not a cureall for fixing all the problems that still can come out throughout the life of a design & construction project.
  • A major positive for our office involving the use of Revit is the ability for our staff from multiple offices to work on the same project central file. We don't need to maintain an expensive server. With the addition of Collaboration for Revit the entire project can be stored in the cloud for our staff to access and complete the project faster than ever.
Revit like AutoCAD can produce both a 3d model & 2 dimensional drawings such as plans, elevations & sections which are required for any design project to be communicated on paper for construction. But unlike AutoCAD, Revit's focus is to build a 3d model that contain smart information for construction. So for Revit the 2 dimensional drawings becomes a byproduct. In addition to the required drawings needed on paper to communicate the design, Revit offers so much more information in the model for all engineering disciplines.
Revit is well suited for firms with office locations across the globe. Revit can be used by staff in various offices to work on the same project file to complete the project in the cloud without a need for a server.
