Overall Satisfaction with Rubrik
We are using Rubrik products for about 5 years now to backup our critical assets. We are highly virtualized and mostly backup VMs. We first implemented Rubrik CDM completely on-premise and switched to Rubrik Security Cloud (RSC) in 2023.
Backup data is still on-premise, but due to the metadata being analyzed by RSC, this enables us to fully scan our backups for viruses, worms and ransomware without affecting the performance of the production systems.
RSC also learns what is a normal behaviour of a server (in terms of how many files change, are added, deleted, etc.) and informs the user on malicious behaviour. Additionally the user is able to define his own rules (e.g. YARA rules, hashes, regex) to hunt for specific threats.Sensitive, unencrypted data can also be automatically discovered (like customer or payment data). Also customizable by the user.
Besides VMs, Rubrik can backup nearly every critical asset, like physical servers, databases, network shares, cloud ressources and lots more.
Though Rubrik offers a lot of features implemetation and administration is an easy task. UIs are intuitive and there are many assistants guiding the user through the tasks.
Due to the intuitive UI, I was able to teach other colleagues how to use RSC in no time and keeping it up-to-date is also very convenient.

- Backup
- Recovery
- Secure backed-up data
- Scan for malicious files and behaviour
- Lack of white listings for false-positive findings
- Support more open-source databases
- Backup client OS
- Backing up about 2000 VMs without headache
- Easy administration and easy to learn
- Can be implemented fast and flexible
- Reasonable pricing
Networker is really heavy in terms of learning, though it also offers a lot of features and has advantages where no good network connection is available (compression, before sending the data, Rubrik globally dedups) and Networker still offfers tape support. But we decided to use Rubrik for our VM backups, because it is much easier to learn, implement and keep it up-to-date. Rubrik also has many security features and is a leader in terms of innovation. This is clearly a game changer.
Veeam is also more complex to use and it is based on Windows Servers. I don't like the idea, that crucial backup software runs on Windows Servers. We also got many VLANs and subnets, so using Veeam would require many Proxies in different segements. These are also Windows Servers and the amount of administration, to keep that construct up-to-date and safe would exceed, what we are willing to invest in terms of man power.
Rubrik offers a single archive, that needs to be uploaded to the cluster and which can automatically update all nodes including their operating system. Rollback in case of a failure is also supported (never had a failure in 5 years of use).
