Overall Satisfaction with Sage Intacct

We predominantly use Sage Intacct for core finance activities and management, in addition to tracking project time and labor costs. The biggest problem the product has addressed for us is the ability to track project hours and associated labor costs, allowing for more accurate forecasts and insight into project margin.
  • Automated billable expenses - the ability to automate the process of re-billing a customer for such expenses (i.e., travel expenses).
  • The ability to automate time and material billings.
  • Being able to extract financial data in usable CSV formats for deeper analysis.
  • Reporting is incredibly bulky and inefficient. Custom reports are very hard to produce without a very in-depth knowledge of many variables. There’s also an Inability to run reports at the transactional currency level.
  • The modules don’t all “talk” to each other, which again makes reporting or analysis difficult. Hybrid billing methods (for example, milestones + t&m) are not really supported, as the contracts module doesn’t “speak” to the projects module, and you cannot include t&m billings in a contract in order to track all billings in the same report.
  • The entire system itself is not very user-friendly or intuitive. Each aspect has a fairly large learning curve.
  • The biggest impact I’ve been able to see in my role is the visibility we’ve been able to gain into our project profit margins. This has allowed us to improve our average profit margins from around 52% to nearly 60%.
As I mentioned in a prior comment, the ability to have both billable expenses and our t&m based projects automated from a billings perspective has saved us literal days on our monthly close.
The ability to run global consolidations has been a godsend - again, chopping days off our close schedule. Unfortunately, the contract revenue management module has been a bit of a burden. While our software is nearly all automated, I can’t even speak to its functionality in terms of fixed fee/milestone-based contracts for services because it’s so clunky and limited we were literally unable to find a way to use it successfully. We’ve had to do everything outside the system in Excel.
This was extremely difficult. We did have a vendor assist, but where we thought we’d resolved any potential issues with providing our required use cases, we wound up running into a LOT of issues near go-live because of how inflexible the system can be, and because of how some modules won’t “talk” to each other.
