Overall Satisfaction with Sage Intacct
We currently use Sage as our exclusive finance and accounting system. We converted to Sage 2 years ago from Quickbooks Enterprise mainly because of the GL and reporting capabilities of the program. With multiple salespeople, sales teams, and sales regions it was important to have the ability to report financials at every level, down to each individual customer. Sage provides that flexibility and then some! The fixed assets module was also a great value-add, allowing us to report much more accurate financials on a monthly basis.
- Reporting
- General Ledger
- Ease of navigation
- Scalability
- Automatic fixed asset depreciation posting
- The ability to select a reporting period in the process of running a report, instead of having to hard code a specific reporting period
- Major time saving on reporting
- Higher cost
- More complete and comprehensive financials
While we don't currently utilize the Accounts Payable features to their fullest extent due to having a third party software in place for that already (which integrates with Sage) we do utilize Accounts Receivable and General Ledger heavily. The Accounts Receivable automations simplify and streamline sending invoices and statements, and with proper setup you can automate collections reports to be delivered to the appropriate people. The live closing feature of Sage within the general ledger eliminates the need to manually process closing entries and reduces month-end close to tie-backs and reconciliations. The recurring journal entry feature simplifies allocation of prepaid expenses, subscriptions, etc.

When comparing QB Desktop Enterprise to Sage I typically use the analogy that Quickbooks is bookkeeping - Sage is accounting. I would say that Sage definitely demands a more in-depth knowledge of accounting to be properly set up and utilized, while Quickbooks is much more transaction centric. Overall if you're looking for a more robust system to accommodate a growing business with higher level accounting needs, Sage is a drastic improvement over Quickbooks.
