Overall Satisfaction with Skype for Business (formerly Lync)

Our company has previously used Skype for Business to call B2C clients in other nations to save on the client's phone bills. Some clients appreciate this, but more often than not we now use WhatsApp for this purpose. For video calls between teams during the pandemic, we have used Google Meet instead which is a great free alternative that does not require clients to set up an account.
  • Clients are generally familiar with it.
  • Good quality video and sound.
  • IM feature is not as slick as Slack.
  • Can be expensive.
  • There are better alternatives in my opinion.
  • Generally quite expensive.
Depending on what you wish to use it for, I believe there are better options out there than Skype for business. For an IM service, Slack is a lot more streamlined and user friendly. It is also a lot more customisable. Google Hangouts / Google Meet is a good alternative for video calls as it is free and clients do not need to set up an account to join a meeting.

Not sure

Are you happy with Skype for Business, now part of Microsoft Teams's feature set?

No

Did Skype for Business, now part of Microsoft Teams live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Skype for Business, now part of Microsoft Teams go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Skype for Business, now part of Microsoft Teams again?

No

Although the product is fine, I believe there are better and cheaper alternatives depending on what you intend on using the service for. Although it is quite an established product, it is quite traditional in many ways and offers little opportunity for customisation to suit individual business needs. I believe it can also be quite expensive.
