Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor

We use NPM to monitor our devices as well as our customers'. It is available to anyone within our organization and we provide limited access to customers as well. It allows for a pane-of-glass uptime monitor for devices and services.
  • It is excellent at providing uptime/downtime monitoring of devices.
  • The interface is clunky and slightly buggy. It is not uncommon to experience bouts of slowness that can't be accounted for by resource usage.
  • Overall, NPM hasn't had a significant impact on ROI.
WUG doesn't perform well in multi-tenant environments, and the SolarWinds Sales Engineer promised that NPM was multi-tenant capable (not a lie, but not entirely accurate, either).
It is excellent in a single-company, single-office environment. However, once you try to start limiting access, NPM's credo seems to be "security through obscurity"; it is very easy to locate devices that one shouldn't be able to monitor simply by editing the URL.
