Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Virtualization Manager

We are a Managed Services Provider, providing Cloud Services to multiple customers. We started using Virtualization Manager to monitor our own servers, and then branched out to monitor our customers' servers as well. This provides an added ROI to our customers, in that we can often locate and remediate a downed server before the customer is even aware of the outage.
  • We like the ease of adding our virtual environment to be managed. After a simple wizard, the Virtualization Manager imports the entire content of the vCenter and starts monitoring it.
  • Once machines have been detected, it's a snap to create alerts based on VM stats
  • Although machines can be added easily, these are seen from the hypervisor side, which means that it's not possible to monitor based on guest stats (Services, etc)
  • Our customers really appreciate the ability to created VMs in our vCloud environment and know that they are immediately monitored, without having to submit a ticket and wait for an engineer to add them as Nodes.
The ease of Virtualization Manager to add large environments, and its integration into the SolarWinds suite of products made it a clear winner over the other management products evaluated.
It is very well suited for large environments where a significant number of VMs need to get monitored and/or detailed statistics aren't a requirement. This also holds true in environments where VMs are added and removed on a regular basis. In smaller environments, it may be more effective to add the individual servers as Nodes directly to SolarWinds Orion.
