Many decision makers forget that Office 365 does not include backup. Veeam for Office 365 is a great product which provides the possibility to back up your entire organization within a hour of setup. This includes the Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams data and puts them away in a Veeam file for offline storage.
The restore options are also great. Restore to a mailbox/site or a local file or PST. There are still some improvements to make: Microsoft Teams can be backed up but can't be restored due to the lack of the proper APIs at Microsoft. Veeam doesn't provide the option for copy jobs to alternative storage (for example CloudConnect or an offsite NAS).

- The possibility to restore files which where deleted and discovered at a later time then the default Office 365 retention.

Office 365 does not provide a backup solution. The license is only used for the service and high availability. Since everyone is storing more and more data online in Exchange Online and SharePoint Online you need to protect them from mistakes and threats. If your online data gets compromised Microsoft wouldn't be able to help you and you need the possibility to fall back to a local/online backup.
My organization and customers have benefited from this possibility mainly due to human errors but also when someone notices they need data from an old SharePoint Site which was deleted months ago.
Besides the main reason (backup) we also use Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 to backup certain mailboxes and archive them to local PST files to store them for longer terms, for example, administration or old employee mailboxes. In the past this was a complex procedure by setting up Outlook and syncing all data to the local computer and then exporting it to a file.

Veeam is great for performance and archiving storage. It gives you control of the program and data and the other provided solutions are hosted and stored online. Veeam is currently working on integrating Veeam Backup for Office 365 into the existing consoles to get one console for all software. This features makes backup management simple.
