Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365
It is used to back up our entire Exchange 365 (2 TB), Sharepoint and OneDrive for the whole company to the on-prem NAS device. This is to address the fact that Microsoft does not retain backups of this data. Also, it is a way of retaining data for litigation protection.
- Very easy to interrogate console and retrieve information.
- Flexibility as to where restored data can be sent.
- Licensing can be confusing.
- Not easy to add extra licenses on without setting up multiple renew periods.
- Peace of mind that we have control of our data.
- Hard to quote anything quantifiable. It's not that expensive relatively speaking so purchase decision wasn't that hard to make.
The realization that we were vulnerable if Microsoft suddenly deleted or lost our data. Unlikely scenario to be true but we would be negligent not to consider the possibility. We're a project-based company, some of which go on for years. Email is our main record of business so it's important we maintain a long term backup store. We've moved into Sharepoint 365 and are using OneDrive as an alternative to Dropbox. It is therefore important to ensure these accounts are backed up regularly.
Everything is controlled through an IT admin. We deliberately do not give end-user access to the product. That's more to do with limitations with our users than it is with Veeam.
On several occasions, we have deleted a mailbox (deliberately) to create a new user account for someone and then used Veeam to populate the new account.
Depending on circumstance we have exported as pst or restored to the original location.
