O365 Backup from Veeam - Simple and Flexible
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365
We performed a trial run with the product and are going to be implementing it on a slightly wider scale in 2020 as we investigate how to further protect our O365 cloud data for Sharepoint, OneDrive, Outlook and ultimately, MS Teams. We have not protected any of this data since deploying O365 and many within the organization are at odds with what to do, if anything. Veeam offers a great solution to address at least the basic needs.
Pros
- Backup
- Restores
Cons
- Experience is still pretty low, but I think it handles our basic needs just fine.
- None yet. Seeing as this is purely a data protection mechanism, there really isn't an ROI that it will address until we need to restore some data for a critical user.
We have known from day one of implementing O365 at our businesses that the data was not backed up. Initially it was just email and most everyone was ok with the proposition that we don't back up email, but eventually OneDrive, Sharepoint and most notably, Teams were each rolled out on a wider scale and data protection in the cloud became a much larger concern.
We have not benefited from this ability, yet, but I am certain there will be a day where it will be necessary. Veeam's other products have been in place in our organization for over 7 years and have greatly simplified out backup processes and reporting, as well as other DR related practices. I expect O365 backups to be no different.
Again, we have not benefited from the O365 flexibility and support in these areas yet, beyond a test level, but suspect that it will become a handy set of features when the need finally arises given Veeam's proven track record within out organization's IT department.
It's separate from normal Veeam infrastructure (this is a benefit in some cases and a hindrance in others) which allows for it to be more modular and focused on what it does without having to fiddle around the interface to find what is needed. The flexibility of where to land our backup data, whether it be in MS Azure or on premises, is hands down the best feature.
We have not reviewed any other products, due to our longstanding history of success with Veeam products, this is one we are just jumping right into.
