If you want a "catch all" program that offers a little bit of everything, [Blackbaud CRM is] considered "affordable" by some market standards that offers a little bit of everything. That being said, none of the tools it offers are perfect (or even generally user friendly). The backend is notoriously challenging for admin who have to do a lot of workarounds for basic functions like list management and campaigns. Blackbaud bought up several other companies to combine their services, but few products work well. They've slowly been letting some services go to focus on the main CRM options but in all the years we used it this has been a struggle compared to competitors who offered one aspect of the [Blackbaud CRM] and did it better.

A perfect scenario to use [SAP] CRM tool would be with the intention of improving efficiency, speed, and creativity when selling products and services through marketing or improving the response time to customer concerns and providing quick solutions to their problems.

  • It is incredibly user-friendly! From the first time I opened a constituent profile, I could easily navigate between tabs and find the information I need in a timely fashion without confusion.
  • It allows personalization! Depending on what information is most relevant to me, I can organize the widgets that are shown first. I typically look at the same few pieces of information on every profile, so I don't have to dig for it!

SAP CRM

  • Amazing integration capabilities with every other application out there. There will be no need to create external bridges to connect anything with SAP CRM since, it natively supports almost every application. We use it for ERP integrations as well.
  • Pull any type of reports with whatever data/format/time date range you want. This capability is also robust in SAP CRM, so it you need not spend hours creating reports manually. Reports can be pulled from the console itself.
  • Inbuilt modules are capable of almost any requirement. There are additional modules available as well, which can be installed on top of SAP CRM.
  • Customisability is also one of the great feature of this platform. Multiple variants can be created and saved for later use.

Cons

  • The marriage of event registration (on-line) and CRM needs some work.
  • Challenges to adapt to organization culture surrounding things like "naming conventions", specialized reporting needs, some bugs in roll-up reporting on couples or families.
  • Tribute giving tracking/reporting is awkward.
  • Better shared language of function between BBCRM and other BB products like Netcommunity and Raiser's Edge. Can cause some errors in the implementation process.
  • Netcommunity functionality pushing data to CRM is messy and fraught with challenges.

  • SAP CRM Mobility is not successful so it is important to improve on this. Things have gotten much better since SAP acquitted Cyclo which works very well. We would like to see Cyclo expanded beyond sales management and inventory management to handle some of the other capabilities that the SAP CRM Mobility offered. However, Cyclo has brought incredible progress in this area.

We've covered a lot, but mostly because we are happy with the system overall. There are a few kinks, and sometimes it takes a minute to figure out the right wording to pull a report or the best way to code a new category that we want to track. But Blackbaud is always there to help us, and once things are figured out - they are super simple to replicate. It wouldn't be worth it to switch to a new system and lose of all our information and time put in to mastering the system

The main reason is ease of integration with other SAP systems (ECC, BW, etc...), but also SAP CRM provides functionality that hasn't evolved as much in other competing CRM systems (mainly Trade Promotion Management and Market Resource Management). Additionally, I'm excited about the direction that SAP is headed with putting their business suite on HANA (in-memory relational database management system) and creating a better user experience with SAP Fiori.

The usability experience is great and I have nothing to complain about. Given the minimum technical requirements the tool works without delays, crashes and errors. At SAP CRM we have everything at our fingertips in a single tool for our business. As developer software I have a lot of relationships with customers and suppliers and the tool collaborates a lot on my journey.

It is purely dependant on who you reach and speak to. You can call twice in an hour period and get two completely different answers. You can get people who are willing to help, people who just tell you no, or people who have no idea what to do. They need to work harder on training their support people. The chat function works very well for simple questions and is my preferred go-to when seeking help.

SAP CRM's support is un-matchable. Whether it be official vendor support or support on online forums, you will find answer to any problem instantly. The vendor has a very customer centric support, and since this tool has a global footprint, you can expect a very good global support.

In comparing Blackbaud CRM to Raiser's Edge, there is more room to configure, customize and seems more refined. In terms of more refined, I am referring to the user interface, the capturing of data, ability to perform simple or complex marketing processes.

  • If you go with Blackbaud purchase the extended training package. Your staff will thank you.
  • The mantra is "If it isn't in Blackbaud it doesn't exist" is a contradiction because best practice with Blackbaud is to not use attachments which means we had to archive copies of donor letters or membership in a completely separate system. Really? What is the point? Or pay more and more and more...
