I believe for small to mid business application hosting Centurylink provides an adequate service. When moving to larger scale business enviornments I believe the limitations, slowness is going to become a problem

CenturyLink Public Cloud
- Perhaps ease of use - it's not convoluted but a little more streamlined of an interface would be great
- Make your presence more known - in a world of heavily advertised cloud options CenturyLink is not at the top of the pile and I think it may be due to a lack of awareness in the business community. Advertise!
- Streamline functionality - interface can be a little slow at times.

- The (new) 'create custom image' function needs a bit of work before it is useable.
- New accounts have limited features until a support requested is made to turn specific ones on. It would be useful to have an account page that tells you what is disabled so unpleasant surprises are not had at the pointy end of a deadline.
- Stackscripts would be better if it more info was transferred to the script. Eg the Linode Label given, plan requested, etc. But now I am just nit-picking

I've been with them a long time. They provide me with the capabilities I need coupled with knowledgeable support that's not pay-for-extra.However, if I move to a non-Linux OS, the level of support by necessity will drop off. I can still ask questions about the infrastructure but I my ability to ask about OS features will decrease.

It's pretty easy for me, but I preferred their old interface before it was called 'cloud' (not a computer science term.) The new interface looks easier but I had to ask for help for things I used to be able to find myself. If someone was new to it--without having used their old interface--it might be easier for them than it originally was for me.

There is very little planned downtime. Whenever planned downtime is necessary I'm always given lots of advanced notice and an explanation that I can pass along to my users that they'll understand. I really appreciate that Linode appreciates my commitment to reliable service to my users. It shows that they believe they've been successful when I'm successful.

Linode is an infrastructure provider issues related to performance are really on me. Linode provides a capable infrastructure and allows me to tailor performance of the services I provide to my customers to my specific situation. Linode allows me to implement "tweaks" that, from experience, I know will do the job with little risk without a whole bunch of static from idiot support 'droids who just get in the way ("this isn't supported at the present time").

The support team of Linode is very reliable and always online. They offer both physical and technological virtual support when reached during problems. There is a responsive technical team that attends us when our applications are experiencing mechanical breakdowns. They have educated us on the effective and responsible handling of data and avoiding any avoidable risks.

I wish it hadn't taken as many iterations as it did. Some of it is my own fault and some of it was related to limitations imposed on me by the programming environment I chose to use. All in all, I'd say I did a pretty good job. I'd stack my homegrown spam defenses up against anyone's!

I did not select the application hosting environment - I was a user. That being said I do not have much of a voice in the difference between hosted services that I have experienced.

Linode is a simpler solution than Azure Virtual Machines. Its low cost, predictable billing, is a win for clients and its dead-simple setup is easy to get up and running quickly without training, reading copious numbers of potentially out-of-date blog posts, or going through certification processes. Linode delivers a generic VM with a recent version of ubuntu within a few minutes of signup.

Although I use only a fraction of their product offerings, the total set makes scalability an easy goal to shoot for. As I said, I have a few customers that use the services my Linode provides...and I like it that way. However, should I need to scale up, I can...without incurring any more cost than I need to.

Linode
- Linode can be spun up so fast it is easy to jump right in.
- Linode gives true console access, which AWS does not! That means things like single user mode and disk repairs (if even necessary) are actually possible. You can treat your machine like a pet, not cattle, if you want.
- Linode has a fantastic mechanism for creating snapshots easily and affordably, and without shutting down the system; it's nice to know that safety net (and it works, btw) is there.
