Transmit Security
Transmit Security hides nicely in the taskbar until needed. It works behind the scenes. It is seamlessly integrated into the Macs functionality. Transmit Security has helped us keep our systems secure while helping make our job easier all round. We would not change it for anything else now. It is our go-to FTP client.

Pros
Cisco
  • Speed - it's fast with almost no delay between triggering the MFA request and receiving the notification on an iPhone
  • Security - in addition to the added MFA layer, a simple, 4-digit passcode can be added to the authentication request
  • Ease of use - it doesn't scare users. It's simple to install, configure, and use.

Cons
Cisco
  • If you need to integrate some legacy applications to Cisco Secure Access by Duo, it's not easy.
  • If you want to have more detailed information and reports, you need to pay more for the licensing. The basic option is not enough.
  • A constraint could be that each employee has to install it on their personal smartphone, which some don't like. But, there is an alternative using SMS, although sometimes it takes too long to receive the message.

  • Updates were not happening as often, but that could be because they were not needed.
  • Some settings were being lost and had to be re-entered, but that has since been resolved.
  • Interface has improved tremendously since first it launched.

There are a lot of competing solutions on the market; however, Duo "just works", and there is little to no learning curve for the new members to be acclimated to it. As long as that continues I see it as the preferred option moving forward

Usability
Cisco
I believe this is one of the most popular methods of authentication and it works for us. I haven’t had any issues since I set up my account and I have been able to use it even abroad during business trips. Overall a great experience and I would recommend it to someone looking to protect clients' sensitive data

Reliability and Availability
Cisco
In the last 5+ years we've been using Duo, there may have been 1 outage that impacted us. We do receive periodic notifications of issues but, for the most part, they impact carriers or functionality that we either don't use, or do not care about.

Performance
Cisco
We do not see any degradation of performance of the protected applications. There are occasional lags in receiving the push but no show stooppers.

Support Rating
Cisco
The support has been fantastic. They are willing to help with the initial configuration or reconfiguration after the initial install. Their online documentation is comprehensive as well. If you prefer to do things yourself, Duo makes it easy to do that as well. We are notified on a very timely basis if there are any outages and are told when the service segment is working again.

It has seldom been we needed any support with Transmit Security, but when we did, they were on it. We got help in minutes rather than hours or days like other suppliers in this marketplace. Indeed, their support convinced us in the beginning that we had made the right decision.

In-Person Training
Cisco
There was no in person training but checking the box was the only way I could complete all of the questions.

This was not organized training but the videos that Duo provides to teach you how to install a particular integration are top notch.

Implementation Rating
Cisco
Implementation was straight forward and you can isolate different scenarios in order to test new application setup or add to an existing setup. Gui interface is pretty easy to understand and follow. I had no experience with Duo and still manage to easily set up new policies and rules.

Alternatives Considered
Cisco
Each vendor we spoke with had different strengths and weaknesses, some very subtle, and for our use cases, they'd probably all have worked; however, we primarily needed a MFA solution for RADIUS and web that was inexpensive, simple to set up, easy to manage, and backed by a large company.

Scalability
Cisco
So far, the only limits we've encountered were tied to our imagination. Duo's strong list of supported integrations is amazing.

Return on Investment
Cisco
  • Duo Security has been a positive ROI in that it has prevented unwarranted access to confidential information.
  • Duo Security has been a positive ROI in that it keeps me informed of what's going on with my devices.
  • Duo Security has been a negative ROI in that it costs money that I'm not sure is well spent all of the time.
