Was very useful when trying to send a message to other employees within a team or to other employees in other teams.. it makes communication easy as one can choose to either send a message as broadcast or not. It hasn't been useful when a message to be conveyed must include images for visual.

Polycom Trio

It is well suited, I believe, in small to mid-level organization where use will be light to moderate. It is useful in a situation where both ends have the same equipment, the same model and the same software release upon them. A scenario where it might be less appropriate is single-use installations and large corporate environments. Though in the future it may become more adapted to the 'open range' of telephony systems right now the system is best when working with others of its kind. It is also inappropriate in a situation where the organization does not have a fully developed Information Technology team or arrangement with a telephony contractor to handle the devices when things go wrong.

Pros

Cisco IP Phone 7800 Series

  • The Cisco 7800 IP Phone supports Power over Ethernet (PoE) thus saving you money to install a power point as you can re-use your existing network cabling for both data and power.
  • The Cisco 7800 IP Phone supports the SIP signaling protocol.
  • The Cisco 7800 IP Phones can integrate with Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) standard directory (i.e. Active Directory) is thus supported
  • It's more cost-effective than the other Cisco models thus explaining some of the limitations.

  • The microphones are extremely sensitive. They make it easier for soft spoken individuals to be heard clearly.
  • It is easy to operate. Once connected through Outlook all it takes is one click to get to into a meeting and two or three to bring in outside attendees.

Cons

Cisco IP Phone 7800 Series

  • Bluetooth and Wifi are not native to these phones. Cisco has some other models with those options.
  • The extra buttons on a 7861 need handwritten labels beside them.
  • The physical function keys use icons not words (e.g. hold key is a pause symbol), which means no need to change for different languages but some users might not interpret the pictures correctly.

Polycom Trio

  • Features (it quite lacks what the other brands offer at the moment, in terms of capabilities and integration).
  • Configuration (Its webUI had a refresh and looks good, but compared to other video endpoints in the industry, it's quite difficult to troubleshoot - point of view of support staff).
  • Support (vendor support is okay, but not great).

It is a telephone device with easy usability and installation. It's plug and play. It is necessary to connect the network cable to the device to receive the internet signal and then connect another cable from the phone to the PC to provide network to the device. It can be easily moved anywhere and allows you to authenticate multiple users with login credentials.

Almost every company uses Cisco products and they know for sure that these products contain several things that include:
- the highest quality, which rarely needs support or maintenance
- if support is needed, it is one of the best in its class, in which specialists have extensive experience, as well as deeply knowledgeable about this product.

Support is good but the price for the maintenance is pretty expensive

Alternatives Considered

Cisco IP Phone 7800 Series

8800 series is superior. The 3900 and 6800 does feel as well built as the 780p. The Yealink and Mitel phones build quality doesn't feel as good either.

Polycom Trio

Polycom Trio provides better conference call quality, picks up voice from corners of the room with additional mics for large room, better widescreen display, and it was mostly the user satisfaction which made us choose Polycom Trio.

Return on Investment

Cisco IP Phone 7800 Series

  • Customers that have bought these have loved them resulting in improved satisfaction with our company.
  • The hardware is reliable; we don't get many faults from our internal users so once configured they need little work.
  • Cisco have their own security team advising of any relevant exploits so you can be confident to deploy these in sensitive areas.

  • Since we were really looking for a device that could provide Skype for Business Online services (web conferencing/video/audio/local screen presenting) at a reasonable price point, I cannot say that this device meets all of our needs. The device has to be at least 99.99% reliable. This is about 60% there. Audio is definitely in the 99% range. Local screen presenting is probably around 75%. Video and web conferencing is about 70%. To comfortably deploy a device in the wild you really need to have 99% reliability. It has to work when its needed. I can understand an occasional hiccup, but one every other day is a too many. If you are replacing older SoundStations with an IP or Skype based audio solution, then this is it.
