Users of Navan and Ramp utilize these platforms primarily for corporate travel management, but their approach and features have some poignant differences. Navan has been popular across global organizations, widely adopted for its seamless integration with corporate workflow, enabling ease of scheduling travel and managing expenses. Employees benefit from incentives such as rewards for choosing cheaper travel options. On the other hand, Ramp, also used organizationally, simplifies financial operations by integrating travel management directly with broader financial tracking and budgeting systems, serving not only travel management but also high-level financial oversight.

Navan users appreciate the platform’s user-friendly interface and its ability to integrate personal rewards programs, which enhances the travel booking experience by allowing users to earn personal rewards alongside corporate savings. The platform is predominantly mentioned in the context of employees arranging their own travel, which supports autonomy and ease of use, reflecting a distributed decision-making process within companies. While Ramp provides a robust framework for travel and expenditure management, its focus is more pronounced on maximizing company-wide financial efficiency and expense tracking, which implies a slightly more centralized approach in financial governance compared to Navan.

Both Navan and Ramp are designed to cater to the needs of organizations requiring robust travel management solutions, yet the scope of integration with other business functions sets them apart. Navan has carved a niche in simplifying and incentivising the travel booking process, directly impacting employee satisfaction and compliance. Conversely, Ramp extends its utility beyond travel to encompass comprehensive financial management, making it attractive for users seeking an all-in-one platform for managing corporate finances, which may appeal to financial officers and upper management seeking to streamline corporate policies and financial oversight.

A specific scenario where TripActions was well suited was when I needed to book a hotel stay in Cologne, Germany for multiple colleagues. The fact that they were registered users made coordinating their stays a seamless process. I have not had an occasion where TripActions was inappropriate to use.

Ramp is great if you want to automate your expenses process. Ramp immediately responds when I (or someone on my behalf) make(s) purchase and I can easily pass receipts and notes live. No more searching for "stuff"!! I spend more time on my job and not worrying about chasing things down or forgetting what was purchased. I charge, I send notes, and I'm done. It's so easy!!! It's incredibly helpful to be able to instantly spin up a virtual card for employees on the go or who have planned expenses. It gets you away from a delayed reimbursement to remote employees and having expenses coded by the employees shortly after they make their purchases.

Cons
Navan
  • Limited partnerships with all the major airlines, or if so, slowly just adding more airlines to their platform
  • Not a lot of information about the ratings of the hotels. I have stayed in hotels that I probably wouldn't have if their information was more up to date

  • The system does not allow you to sort on all columns in some of the areas (not consistent from one screen to another).
  • When bills are entered in as a Bill Pay, the expense doesn't show up in a csv file until it is paid but it needs to be expensed in the system as the date of the Invoice.
  • If a vendor is paid through a credit card transaction as well as Bill Pay, you have to look at two different places in the system to see the details.

This decision overall isn’t made by me. The company evaluates the product. While I am an influencer the overall review is my personal opinion and mine only. The company books flights or would like for us to book flights through trip actions everything else is suggested but done with a personal cc which makes it optional. My option will be to not use TripActions for anything personally.

I like TripActions more because everything is on a mobile app that is super user-friendly. The customer service team is also world class-I genuinely have never felt so taken care of. More so, Concur Travel and Expense never rewarded me for traveling, while I made over 200 dollars in Amazon money just for doing my job.

We moved to Ramp from Expensify at our accountant's advice. We went with her advice due to ease of use, ease of Quickbooks sync, ability to send reminders with one click, and more. We are very happy with the decision to switch to Ramp.

Return on Investment
Navan
  • The ability to change flights while I am on the road in meetings. They actually call the agents for me.
  • It has put money back in my pocket with the Amazon rewards and my company has saved money by me booking the less expensive options.

  • The actual dollar savings is difficult to determine at this point. We'll have a better idea the ROI at the end of the year. Previously, we received 1% back on all purchases with our corporate card. We receive 1.5% with Ramp, pay per number of cards annually (for Ramp Plus) to auto-lock cards and for additional features.
  • Time savings for admin and employees has been significant due to ease of use.
