What is Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams combines video conferencing software with team collaboration tools. The communications platform allows MS Office users to conduct conference calls and share files via SharePoint, and join or initiate a group chat.

Microsoft Teams features three tiers of pricing. The first is a subscription-less, free option that offers the same features as the other two tiers but does not offer administration tools like analytics and access to on-premise servers, or support features like 24/7 phone and web support. The second and third tiers are based on the size of your business and its conferencing needs. Its “Office 365 Business Premium” option starts at $12.50 a month per user, with a required annual commitment, and its “Office 365 E3” option for enterprises starts at $20 a month per user, also with a required annual commitment.

Key Features
Meetings: Meet with teams of 10 or 10,000. Host audio, video, and web conferences with anyone inside or outside your organization or go big with live events.

Calling: Its Phone System feature enables PBX capabilities including call control in Office 365 and replaces on-premises PBX. Its calling features are customizable to fit your organization’s unique needs.

Microsoft Teams is being used by my team and much of my organization as a communication tool between colleagues. The business problems it solves are the need to quickly chat, call, and screen share with others in a timely manner. It is also being used as a file sharing tool to send files back and forth.
  • Workplace communication.
  • Screensharing.
  • File sharing.
Cons
  • The user interface could be improved.
  • The size on the screen isn't great.
Microsoft Teams works well for many teams of different sizes, where instant communication over the computer is necessary. It is perhaps less appropriate in smaller team settings, or in settings where face to face interaction is more necessary.

Teams- The ultimate communication and file sharing platform for teams.

MIcrosoft Teams has been implemented some time back (say about 6-7 months back) within our organization as a replacement for Skype for Business. It has been launched throughout the organization and not within a specific team as such. It offeres a wide variety of solutions such as team audio/video calls, real time file update feature, file sharing on cloud feature, group team chats etc. The unique and primary business solution that is offers is that of real time file update on cloud by the team members which eventually help in keeping the status tracker updated all the time without going into the hassle of sending and getting it updated via email which turns out to be a very inefficient task.
  • Firstly, it enables us to form team groups within the platform which ultimately helps in team chats and file sharing within the teams and also lets the file to update in real time by all the team members within the group.
  • Secondly, Teams is the only platform where we have different applications embedded and we can use those to prepare different types of files within the teams and thus we don't have to scroll outside teams for the same. For example, onenote, Jiracloud, planner, stream, wiki are different platform embedded within Teams to help us use them and complete our tasks
  • Thirdly, Teams is directly connected to sharepoint which i think is the most useful feature of the same. We can upload all the files on to share point so that anyone who we want to send the file can access the same via share file.
Cons
  • The most important point to work upon is the Graphical user interface (GUI), Teams GUI is not very easy to use and thus it takes a lot of time for a new user to understand its feature and to further use them. Therefore, work could be done to improve its GUI so that it becomes user friendly.
  • I noticed that whenever I log in daily and directly go to Teams, it takes a quite a lot of time to connect to its server and to come online as compared to other products like zoom which are blazingly fast . Thus the time taken by Teams to connect to its server for the first time could be improved.
  • Teams is a really heavy software considering the vast features it offers and the embedded additional platform like Jiracloud, onenote etc embedded into it which in turn makes the software really slow at times. therefore, efforts could be made to improve its processing power.
Microsoft is really great product and actually its a bliss for indivuduals working in large teams since it keeps all the team members well connected via team groups and file sharing within the different teams in the organization. However, I do think that this software is not pretty well suited for freelancers aka people who work on clients single handedly since they could perform all the above mentioned tasks via emails or skype and hence it is not best suited for them.

Microsoft Teams is currently in the process of being completely rolled out within my organization. I have been on the start-up team tasked with beginning the integration and training process as we move from Skype as the primary office communication tool. As an application, my organization would like Teams to become the best-in-class standard tool for both internal and external meetings. Furthermore, Teams offers more than just video and text-based communication. The tool is powerful and offers services for storing files, organizing content, managing groups and calendars. At the moment, Teams is being rolled up through the admin areas of our business but will gradually continue to production employees as well. While Skype has been a standard tool in our technology suite, Teams seems to better integrate the advantages of multiple platforms within itself and the O365 platform as a whole. I have really enjoyed utilizing the platform over the past year as we have tested the functionality of Teams. I think it it is a great step forward for our organization and should make collaboration even more accessible for all employees.
  • Organization: Teams brings a familiar UI that enables individuals to understand the platform quickly. Furthermore, there are sections dedicated to specific platforms.
  • File Sharing: Finding stored documents is extremely efficient, especially when attempting to share data during the middle of a call.
  • Video/Chat Quality: Quality of calls is noticeably better than other Microsoft counterparts (Skype).
  • O365 Integration: O365 Users should be able to access their content across the multiple Microsoft channels.
Cons
  • Outlook and Teams seem to perform similar functions that make them unnecessarily dependent on one another.
  • File sharing structure can have a large learning curve.
  • Permission settings are difficult, if not impossible to set up at the moment.
I think Teams is great for cross-functional business teams that meet in order to collaborate/share information. Teams is Skype with more file sharing potential and capacity. The platform works extremely well for conducting meetings (either blank, face-to-face, or sharing content) and enables users to quickly access needed materials on the fly. I have also enjoyed the integrations for OneNote, Stream, Planner, and more. I have been able to search previously recorded meetings and reference them all within the same application. The ability to access materials housed within the O365 platform is powerful and only enables and enhances productivity. I do think Microsoft will have to rope in the breadth of some of their applications. If Teams is meant to be an aggregate source for planning and storing information, I would hope that Microsoft decouples the dependency on other platforms (such as Outlook).

Teams is excellent for personal or team organization, file sharing, and audio/video conferencing.

Microsoft Teams has been an important communication tool for our various departments. It helps bridge the gap between our Creative department and our Design team located 300 miles away. We also recently had our corporate communications group join Teams, which has been very helpful when utilizing their input in projects. It took them a few months to make the jump from Skype to Teams, and I think they've been pleasantly surprised with the ease of use. Teams is full of great features that allow you to customize various folders, and the nice thing about that is that you can make folders light and easy to use, or you can go more in-depth by creating folders within folders. We use various channels (or folders/tabs) to build an information system for processes, including a Wiki.
  • Easy to use layout, both in the mobile version as well as the desktop version.
  • The fact that they have a Teams app helps you continue your conversations wherever you are and even share files.
  • Teams is very customizable, allowing you to create intricate organizational systems, or you can keep it simple.
  • Dark mode is a nice feature, especially when you're on your computer for long hours.
Cons
  • Too much organization of multiple folders can lead to confusion and not knowing where things are.
  • Replying to comments doesn't work like other chat services. You have to respond to the specific post and not the general conversation, kind of like replying to a specific persons comment in the comments section of a facebook post instead of just replying like you would in Facebook Messenger. This is really annoying and quite confusing at first. I still don't like it.
  • When you want to chat someone that you haven't chatted in a few weeks, instead of just scrolling down to find their name, Teams removes your chat with them from the "Recent" tab and you have to type in their name to locate them again. Your last conversation with that person is still there but the whole thing is really annoying. Maybe there's a setting to change that that I haven't seen yet.
Microsoft Teams has been fantastic for video conference calls. The video is always nice and clear, and you have a video and audio button that you can toggle on or off whenever you need to during a video call. Another great feature is that you can also share what's on your screen/ desktop, or if you have multiple monitors, as we do, you can switch between the two.
Nothing about the program shouts excitement, but there are some very handy tools at your disposal. File/text/ information organization can be simplified very easily if you need it to be. The text editor is also built well, and easy to use.
As far as things this program needs or could be improved upon, nothing really comes to mind other than my cons list. For the most part, everything is pretty solid.

We currently use Microsoft Teams throughout our organization by creating "Teams" and using these "Teams" to connect, assign projects/tasks, and show the status of completion on these projects/tasks. For instance, we have a Finance Team, Sales Team, ALCO Team, etc. and everyone that is a team member is part of the conversations inside these Teams, and can be assigned a task that needs to be completed. Once the team member has started progress, they can show their in progress status, when it's completed, and leave comments regarding the task.
  • Microsoft Teams helps manage tasks very well. It's easy to see the completion status of any team member that's been working on a certain project while allowing that team member to ask questions or leave comments for the other members to see.
  • Microsoft Teams also sends nice reminders if projects are coming due and what the status is of a project coming due. This way the person in charge of finishing the project knows, as well as the other team members involved.
  • The conversation piece of Microsoft Teams is nice because you can hold a conversation right in Microsoft Teams via their messaging system, and also upload files to that conversation so everyone can see the work being referenced.
Cons
  • The one thing I would like to see is for Microsoft Teams to collaborate with Outlook to add the project deadlines into team members' calendars as well. I know reminders are sent, but having it added to the calendars would help too.
Microsoft Teams is well suited for collaboration and status updates. It makes conferencing and file sharing easy while keeping the team on task.
